These working wooden wonders might just be the most enjoyable projects you ever build in your shop. Wooden gear clocks are not only fascinating to watch, but can be surprisingly accurate timepieces. Just don't expect atomic precision—after all, they're modeled on 17th-century technology! But as you build these clocks you'll use all of the basic principles that still govern mechanical clocks today. Six well-illustrated step-by-step projects are arranged by skill level from beginner to advanced, and full-sized patterns are attached to the book in a handy pouch. With a little perseverance you'll soon be ticking along happily with your own wooden clockworks. All you have to do is build them, wind them up, and let them run—no batteries required. Review: Good read if you are interested in wood geared clocks. - Yes, this is what I was looking for and a good book. It has the plans including the full size patterns it promised. Pictures inside are in color and instructions are actually fairly decent. Most of the projects in this book can be built with a scroll saw and a drill press (plus lots of filing and sanding) yet.... There are a couple instances like the gear machine where other tools like a mill and lathe are used which isn't cool, because those are expensive and this book is advertised as a scroll saw book. however, with a little diligence a person could construct all the projects with a scroll saw and hand tools. I've only built one wood gear clock so far (from another set of plans) and will give fair warning as best I can:) to cut an accurate wooden gear takes patience, but can it be done on a scroll saw. I'm giving this book 5 stars because: it has a couple plans in it that I really like and are well designed, It has few to no literary rivals as nobody else who offers wood gear clock plans has published a book for woodworkers, it is priced very competitively compared to other plans you might find online, and I do think it is a fun hobby. Review: Great Wooden Clock Book - Very well written and illustrated book. Contains pretty much everything you need to make one of the six wooden geared clocks contained in the book. The material list is very complete and well documented. Of course if you don't like any of the wooden clocks contained in this book it may be of limited value except for the concepts and ideas contained in the book. The only negative may be that the plans are on both sides of the paper so you have to make copies to make the clock, and you can't really cut the plan up to make the copies because they overlap on both sides. So, you have to manage a large sheet of paper to make partial copies. Some of the copies can be on one normal size sheet of paper and if you are limited to 8 1/2 x 11 size paper you will have to tape some pieces of the plan drawing together. Since many of the measurements are critical you must be very careful putting the pieces of the plan together. The clock plans are quite diverse so hopefully you can find a clock you like. Definitely a book I wold recommend for beginner or intermediate clock builders to build or just find out how wooden clocks are made.

Wooden gear clocks - Very nice but some information is missing
A nice collection for wooden gear clock lovers. Missing items: - On the Flying Pendulum clock by Brian Low there is no information on were to get the spring. So no sense to make this design! - On the Electromagnetics Gear clock by Alfred Mifsud there is no information on were to get the Standard Electronic Pendulum Circuit, So no sense to make this design. - On the 30 Hour Gear Clock by Mark Tovar there is a sketch on how to bend the pendulum spring. Any spring needs to be of a special spring type material, this info is missing. It would be nice get this information and were to get it. Mark is the only one explaining a bit of what is needed however it would be better to get a commercial spring like he always supply to his customers and were to get it. Thanks, a very nice collection.

Rad!
Been wanting to make wood gear clocks for over a decade. This makes it feel very attainable, at a great price.

Good, but with issues
I bought this in the print edition, and so got the plans. All of the designs are OK, but in some cases there is a lack of detail and it takes some work to understand how the clock operates and the parts fit together. I have several issues with the book: - the plans are folded and it it hard to flatten them out. It would have been better to make them available electronically. - the labels on the parts in the exploded view of the electromagnetic gear clock do not line up with the parts. - the electromagnetic gear clock has a major design error resulting in the hour hand being off center. - the copyright terms are unclear. If I take one of these designs and adapt for 3D printing, is it still covered? - the authors draw on the designs of other without giving them credit (for example, Aaron Dodd Crane for the electromagnetic gear clock).

Informative book, useful plans
The book is interesting but, as or more importantly, the plans are well done. Be sure to photo copy your plans/templates instead of using the "master" copies included in the book.

Great book
After leafing through this multiple times, I have to say it's a great book with great detail. It explains how to build wooden gear clocks. I wish it explained a bit more of the theory on why and how the gear ratios work to keep time, but that would likely double the size of the book. All in all, I'm happy with it and would recommend it.

Worthy
Nice patterns. 6 patterns are there. With all material n assembly directions. Best for beginners. With least material you can make one of the 6 patterns. i.e. genesis clock. Others require wide range of proper materials. Best for trial projects.
