Super easy to cook and use. My husband and I love the flavour. Filling and a fun alternative to rice or traditional barley.

15 percent protein, an almost absurd level of fiber, plus iron, calcium, and potassium. The dark-purple seed coat is also high in the antioxidants known as anthocyanins—apparently higher than cultivated blueberries. What's not to love? I use this for my sourdough bread making. I sprout them and then mill them and use about a third of the total flour content for the recipe. I use it with einkorn flour and it is lovely. The bread takes on a darker color, but not purple. It has a very good flavor and you can't beat the nutrition.

Product comes in small package,serving size 7 or approximately 16 oz,. Product labeled as organic and has recognized stamps. I never bought barley so this is my first experience outside of barley that exists in canned soups. This is part of my research on wellness plans and eating a whole food diet. I followed the package directions but soaked the seeds for a couple hours before cooking. The Whole Foods groups that I watch recommend soaking seeds and grains for ease of digestion. I combined the barley with other veggies and spicy tofu. It was the first day in many where I met my protein and fiber goals without actually trying. Yes, the barley has a great taste and blends well with other foods. As with most grains it has a lot of calories so if your dieting, mix it salads to enjoy the flavor and the nutritional benefits.

I'm quite impressed with the quality of 1000 Springs Mill Purple Barley. I wasn't sure what to expect but the barley was extremely clean of chaff or debris. The package arrived in excellent condition and time. Definitely a seller who I will look to in the future for other grains also.

Wow, this stuff is amazing. It has to be ground if you want to use it in cooking breads, cookies, etc.Shame it is so expensive and only comes in smaller pound size bags.I understand limiting it to small quantities controls the price and how much people will buy. To bad someone else doesn't come along and mass produce it just so everyone can benefit from its healthful benefuts.

I immediately made some soup and added some of this barley as soon as I received my order and it's delicious. Definitely fresh. No grit or other vegetable matter. I will be reordering when I run out.
