Are these compatible with the snow blower I just bought that came with 8.0 ah batteries?

They fit exactly the same as the 8ah battery. I just bought the SB22 and am going to use them on this snow thrower. I have 4ah, 6ah and now 8ah batteries. They fit on the same charger too.

Are these lithium ion batteries backward compatible with non-ion tools that used the previous standard 24v 2a batteries?

Yes, it was the correct battery charger and it worked without a problem. I believe it is also a rapid charger as well. The charge actually last long then I expected as well. Hopefully this helps.
