20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Patti Page

Pattie Page remains a true original, beautiful, inspirational, and quite versatile in her abilities as a vocalist...
Has there ever been a more angelic voice for light pop and country music than Pattie Page? I doubt it; always pleasant, but with an occasional tone of heartbreak in her voice, Page is electric in ways that more animated performers will never be. "Mister and Mississippi" is one of the songs that makes one yearn for the days of great songwriting--it's recording is quite scratchy but it is nonetheless a keeper. "Tennessee Waltz" is the original mutli-tracked version and it lacks a bit of the poignancy of Page's solo versions (as performed on stage) but it is an interesting version of the tune nonetheless. "Changing Partners" is one of Page's most beautiful contributions to the art of song performance, and it is not the version used of late in Paul Thomas Anderson's film "The Master" (which was not performed by Page), but the recording here is my favorite. Overall, if you want a great collection of early Page songs with decent sound, this is a good one. This has very good quality in its selection of songs. A-

Patti Page .. her best songs ..
I saw an old movie on TCM recently and on the soundtrack, there was Patti Page's "Old Cape Cod" .. it hit me just right I loved listening to the song and thought, wow, Patti Page .. who'da thunk all these years later that she would be singing to me in an old movie and really "speak to me" ?? ;0 So I went on line to Amazon & found this album which has "Old Cape Cod" on it and all her other wonderful hits and bought it. I'm really enjoying listening to her again and love the album. Just be prepared to know that when she sings "How much is that doggy in the window" that you will be saying "arf arf" for the rest of the day!

The Best of Patti Page - The Millennium Collection
Purchased two copies of this CD; one for my 93 year old father, and one for me cause I love her voice, as well. I even came upon the original 33 rpm album of hers when I was cleaning out dad's house. Changing Partners/Tennessee Waltz (the later was dad's all-time favorite hit by Patti.) My sister & I had purchased tickets to take dad to see Patti a few years ago, but a death in our family changed the plan and now she's gone so that opportunity is lost forever so it was even more important that I give him this CD so he will always have Patti to listen to. Singers like her will never come again. I highly recommend any music by Patti!!!!

A very enjoyable abum
Patti Page was part of my childhood music, and I still love the songs. Each song tells a story and the music remains listenable; it also is still good for dancing. Songs include (How Much) is That Doggy in the Window, The Tennessee Waltz, Mockin' Bird Hill, and Allegheny Moon.

Wonderful CD
My mom had this album when I was young. I remember the words to several songs. Mom now has dementia and loves to listen to music from her younger years. I bought this CD for Mom; when I play it for her, Mom becomes very calm. The songs are just as I remember them, we enjoy singing along with Patti!

Poor Recording Quality
Patti Page (1927-2013) was among the last vocalists to emerge from the big band "girl singer" mold, beginning her career as a radio singer and then touring with the Jimmy Joy Band, a minor group, before signing a contract with Mercury Records. Although she had hits in the 1940s and the 1960s, she was most successful in the 1950s, bridging the demise of big band and surviving the advent of rock `n' roll. Page was noted for combining pop and country and for singing her own back-up vocals on her recordings, both of which were very unusual for the time.Page's biggest success was easily the 1950 "The Tennessee Waltz," a song which had kicked around since 1946 and which her clean vocal and back-up harmonies put at the top of the charts. Other notable successes included "Mockingbird Hill," "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window," and "Old Cape Cod." Page's voice has a very `blonde' quality: it is smooth and pleasant, but it is also very safe, without any edge. At her best, she fills a niche somewhere between Doris Day and Rosemary Clooney; at her weakest, she is a singer who would have been perfectly at home in the chorus of the Lawrence Welk Show, and that may or may not be a good thing depending on your taste.THE BEST OF PATTI PAGE: THE MILLENNIUM COLLECTION does not include such early successes as "Confess" or later hits like "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte," but it does include the most obvious recordings, including "Why Don't You Believe Me" and "Allegany Moon." Unfortunately, the recordings here are in dire need of a remaster. They have a muddy quality that doesn't do Page's voice full justice. Mildly recommended, but if you are seriously interested in Patti Page, you'll need to find better quality recordings.GFT, Amazon Reviewer

One Beautiful Songstress.
Let Patti Page take you back to a place in time when music meant something. Her songs brought people closer together. Americans were more in harmony with one and other. I was a kid when Patti was popular, but she was so beautiful, on stage and screen. We watched her TV show in black and white, but her songs were so relaxing and enjoyable. Patti was so gorgeous and entertaining, you couldn't take your eyes off of her. More importantly, her music was smooth and enchanting. I am so glad music like this is still available. I think you'll really enjoy the sound of Patti Page as I do...

Patti 5 Stars, 20th Century Masters 2
Unfortunately there is no way to leave a review just for the production of the CD. Without need to review Patti Page, the sound quality on this series is sorely lacking. The highs are unbearably harsh, and yes, I have a very good sound system.I'm afraid that this may be indicative of the 20th Century Masters series. I guess they may be cheap for a reason.

Patti Page, with her outstandingly beautiful voice.
I liked her album so much I ordered the same one for a friend. The album, while it did not have a large selection, it nevertheless had the core of all her great songs we remember her singing. I ordered another of her albums that had many more of her songs on it. It is titled, Patti Page,All My Love. It just came so I did not have an opportunity to play it. You just cannot go wrong with her albums. What a beautiful voice.
