Give it a try!
Got a bit fed up with all the marvel films and those of that type but actually love this film. At the price paid, thought it an absolute bargain!

School for dangerous children
For the uninitiated: New Mutants is based on a Marvel comic. Which is part of the X Men comics. This film was originally from Fox Studios, who did all the X Men movies we have had to date. New Mutants does try to be a bit edgier and darker and more adult than regular X Men.This was originally due to be released in 2018. But the Fox studio being taken over by Disney led to it being delayed. And put paid to the chances of this becoming a franchise or getting any sequels. The story sees a girl who develops dangerous abilities find herself at a remote school for those with such. Along with four other pupils. They quickly release they've not been told the truth about the place. And that their new arrival's ability is very dangerous indeed...I have no familiarity with New Mutants comics. Thus went into this with zero expectations. Also because the delays had prompted rumours of it being bad. But I was pleasantly surprised. This was quite an enjoyable watch. It's like a franchise starter movie, in that it exists to introduce the characters and their world, set it up for more, and give them a story along the way. But it does have the advantage in how it handles the threat, which means it doesn't have to do what such films normally do with that. The characters are all pretty solid and well acted, and the fact that it's a small cast means they go together well and create a good dynamic.it is quite successful in it's efforts to be more grown up, with horror elements being quite effective on screen. The end does promise so much more as well. I was used to the characters by the end and wanted to see what would happen next. There are so many places it could have gone storytelling wise.It won't though. Because as mentioned the takeover put paid to any chances of that - and a proposed end credits scene never got shot as a result - so any future New Mutants films will start from scratch.Such is life. I will just remain glad I saw this one.The disc has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English. Spanish. French. English audio described.Subtitles: English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Spanish, French. There are no extras on it at all.

New xmen film
This is a okay film, I was a bit disappointed it could have been a lot better. Not as good as past X men movies.

New Mutants are dangerous!
If you are expecting a big budget spectacular with lots of action like other X-Men films … well, this is nothing like those other films. The film was shot with a relatively low budget and that meant that the special effects and hence the action scenes had to be limited. It was intended to be the first of a trilogy of films and so it spends time on introducing the characters and showing their back stories instead. The result is more of a teen 'coming of age' film with a dark, claustrophobic feel to it, rather than outright horror. Some of that feeling comes from the choice of the set itself – a former secure mental hospital! The basic plot is that five teens are being held in a secure mental hospital and told that they would otherwise be in prison – or worse – because of what they had done to get themselves sent there. They have to try to come to terms with their newly discovered mutant powers, the mental demons caused by their past experiences AND their hormones … and then a sinister force seems to invade the hospital! They form new friendships just in time to fight to save themselves and escape. The film features great performances by Maisie Williams as the quiet, and initially timid, religious Scottish girl Rahne Sinclair, and Anya Taylor-Joy as the ‘abrasive’ Russian girl Illyana Rasputin. Blu Hunt as new ‘inmate’ Dani Moonstar does well in her first ever film role, while Charlie Heaton and Henry Zaga are relegated to minor roles. Alice Braga turns in a suitably ambiguous performance as the Doctor.I believe that many of the people who ‘rubbish’ this film do so because they dislike the fact that it is female-led and/or is more driven by the back-story of the characters rather than being the all-action film that they expected. Others are unable to handle the fact that it features a front-and-centre lesbian relationship between two main characters. This is presented just as openly as a ‘normal’ relationship might be and not as the usual ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ background kiss between two minor characters. While the film mostly does not deserve its ‘15’ certificate (because the potentially disturbing part of the back story for Illyana is just hinted at), there is one scene in particular (with references to ‘Psycho’ in it) that might be disturbing for younger viewers … Maisie Williams definitely deserves to be known as a ‘scream queen’ after this film! For me, this film was a breath of fresh air and an enjoyable watch.

WILL THE FIVE YOUNG MUTANTS ESCAPE THEIR PRISON-LIKE SURROUNDINGS ?
From the Marvel stories of the same name comes the superhero/horror tale which begins with a Tornado destroying 'Dani's (Blu Hunt) a young Cheyenne's entire village leaving her the only survivor. Some while after she wakes-up handcuffed to the bed in a hospital run by Dr Cecilia Reyes who eventually reassures Dani that she's safe.Dani is introduced to four others all with different powers yet to be harnessed, Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane (Maise Williams) Illyana Rasputin / Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy) Samuel "Sam" Guthrie / Cannonball (Charlie Heaton) and Roberto "Bobby" da Costa / Sunspot (Henry Zaga)All there after serious consequences of their various abilities had made each o them on the wanted-list by the authorities, and each believing themselves being prepared to join the X-Men so accepting the strict regime they find themselves in.Each will have vivid visions of their past. The five not always seeing eye to eye will come together when a threat is made to one of them, they will use their extraordinary powers to overcome the threat.Sadly, though a good movie idea, it doesn't really get going as it should of, there are some gory moments and images along the way.The film needs a follow-up with the five to make it come together in my view, whether that will happen or not? (probably not as the film didn't really catch-on)
