Q: Is the base solid? ie. could I attach legs to it?

There’s about a half inch trim around the bottom edges. The Underneath has roughly a 2 inch gap so if your wheels stick out 2 and a half or 3 inches or more you should be fine, can’t guarantee the wheels won’t buckle as it looks like it’s not designed for wheels on bottom but feel free to give it a go. I’d recommend having 6 wheels total, 2 in the middle to disperse the weight evenly among the wheels.

Q: What size are the basket compartments?

Not sure size but there pretty big we have got lots of shoes in it i so recommend this i bought two one far my porch and one for my hall
