The Itsy Bitsy Knife That Won My Heart
A few weeks ago I stumbled upon folding knives here at Amazon. I have no idea how that happened. I assume Amazon has figured out a way to implant buying impulses directly into the brain. Either way, I got hooked on these folding pocket knives. I've already received six different knives with more on the way. Today I expanded my search criteria from "good knives under $20" to "really good knives under $100." Shame on you Amazon--you've created a monster. So far, this Sanrenmu 7034LUI-PH Outdoor Survival Self Defense Folding Knife (Black) is my favorite. I'm not sure it lives up to its name as an all-around Outdoor Survival Self Defense Knife, but I've come to love it for the following reasons:1. It's tiny. But, they maximized the blade length and minimized the handle length. They achieved a superb balance between the two--at least for me. I love it. It feels weightless once it's in my pocket. I forget it's there. In addition, I don't like to use a pocket clip so I removed the one that came with it so now it's totally smooth as well as tiny. But when I first opened the box I was shocked by how small it looked. I simply did not believe it was the product I had ordered. I measured it and it matched all the dimensions stated in the listing. But I still so surprised I wanted to return it. I got as far as printing a return label. Fortunately, I discovered the virtues of this knife before returning it.I guess you could say it's become my EDC knife. I hadn't planned to buy an EDC knife because I didn't want anything else to carry in my pocket. But this knife goes unnoticed in my pocket. It seems to get along with the other inhabitants in my right front pants pocket.2. It works great.Within a few minutes of playing with it the folding mechanism had smoothed itself out so that the knife opened easily with the index finger flipper. I have arthritis in all my fingers so I was worried this Sanrenmu might not work out for me because it does NOT have any Assisted Opening mechanism. I don't need it. It opens easily with the flipper. It locks open securely and with a loud click (must be loud because I'm almost deaf). It closes easily--at least if you prefer to use two hands to close a folding knife. I can easily close it with one hand but only by using my right hand to unlock the liner lock while pressing the back of the blade against something. But I think that might be a dangerous way to close a knife. The handle is small so you cannot get a full four finger grip on it. I have small hands and can only get half of my pinkie on it. But, it feels very secure in my hand. The handle is covered with some kind of plastic. I can't tell you if it's good plastic or bad plastic. But I like the way it feels. The circular indents might improve the grip. I don't know. All I can tell you is the plastic feels hard and smooth--not "grippy".3. It looks great!Once I'd looked at the knife here and there over a few days I began to love how it looks. I love the blade shape, I love the handle. I love it from every angle. I love how it looks when it's closed and when it's open. As I said before, the circular indents in the handle covers may or may not help the grip, but they look great. The plastic is a very neutral gray or grey-brown that's translucent. Most of the time it just looks black because all the metal underneath is dark black.4. It feels great.I love the feel of this knife. When I see it on the counter with my watch and wallet I want to pick it up and open and close it. Is that wrong?5. I don't feel I know enough about knives to comment on most of the key features people focus on in their reviews. So I'll sum up my opinionated review by saying I think this is a great small knife for EDC by people like me who don't have a lot of serious work to do with their pocket knife.

So impressed I went back and purchased a couple more
If I ever re-order a knife that means I REALLY like it. It's a bit smaller but is just the right size to be effective and useful for many things. Takes a really sharp edge easily. Not sure what the steel is. Blade shape is perfect for many uses and whatever the black coating is on the blade it is very durable. I've bought a couple extra for myself and given as gifts.
