excellent read
I abslutely love this book. Devine was a true leader and as many have stepped into careers as a drag queen including myself. R.I.P. Devine and just know you were loved by many.

Unnecessarily rude
I didn't know this book existed until I read Frances Milstead's book on her son. This book does give insight on his disco career that John Waters' "Shock Value" and "My Son Divine" miss out on. Bernard Jay was there with Divine the entire time, and there are a lot of interesting stories. In "My Son Divine", Ms. Milstead brings up Mr. Jay's memoirs and denounces some of them, and it makes you doubt the stories in "Not Simply Divine" and makes you wonder how much is made up for dramatic effect. The worst part of the book is that Mr. Jay goes out of his way to insult Divine, by refering to how fat he is, his 'flabby' skin, and even brings up Divine farting in cars and airplanes. OK, maybe he didn't like Divine that much as a person, but how is he helping himself by being unnecessarily rude?

And yes she/he was Divine
The story of a man who became a female Icon. The struggle in the begining with the short films, to her rise to fame, is fantastic tale of struggle, triumph, and in the end tragedy. Well told by the one person who knew him best. A true look into the man who became Divine. [email protected]

Excellent book that I LOVE!!!!
This is a GREAT book about the life of Divine. I have read it many times throughout the years. It's filled with wonderful details about the life of the infamous entertainer, and really allowed me inside the mind of a legend. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy seeing Divine's movies. RIP Divi!!

A Good, Nostalgic Read
Loved reading intimate details about the life of this one-of-a-kind trail-blazer. The author's personal PR efforts in the book were somewhat off-putting, but didn't completely ruin the fun of this backstage pass to the highs and lows of Divine's professional and private lives.

Good book
The pictures are disappointing. Few and most are stock movie photos. The story telling is good and interesting. This author does not bad mouth Divine as his mother said. I recommend this book if you like Divine.

Cool
Was printed to order which is nice when a title goes out of print, and arrived promptly. Very well if coolly written. Great snapshot of an era. Ultimately very sad of course.
