Action Presidents #2: Abraham Lincoln!: A Graphic Novel Biography

A great book for reluctant readers!
My 12-yr old son doesn't like to read books. He'd rather be outside or playing video games. But being able to read well and quickly is an important life skill. These "Action Presidents" books are a great hack to get my son to read. They are filled with drawings and funny side jokes. They provide just enough variety to make him forget that he's actually reading a book. By having him read aloud while heading to soccer practice, we both learn about this country's incredible Presidents. Brilliant! I just wish the authors would make more books in this great series.

Great for a kid who love’s history
My 4th grader loves history and this series of books. He can’t put them down and is full of “fun facts” when he reads them. Great way to pull him away from the video games.

BOOOOO!
An AMAZING book of Lincoln, and the author and illustrator are TERRIFIC!I have read lots about Lincoln, here are two facts:1: Lincoln did not have his beard until the Election of 1860. An 11 year old girl from NY named Grace Bedell wrote to Lincoln and advised him to grow a beard so he looked a bit attractive. Abe thought this was sound advice and grew the beard.2: Everybody knows about in 1863 “Four score and seven years ago …” Gettysburg Address. But “Four score” = (20 x 4 = 80), since this was 1863 when Abe was giving the speech, then 1863 – (80 + 7) = 1776??? “BOOOOO! I THOUGHT THIS WAS HISTORY, NOT MATH!” And the Gettysburg Address lasted less than THREE MINUTES! Wouldn’t it be nice if all presidential speeches were that short???Both author Fred and illustrator Ryan = 5 + 5 = 10 STARS!

Great comic series
My kid loves these comics and I enjoy she is learning stuff. Not all of it is 100%, but how can you be when history is so complex and, generally, brutal. It's perfect for elementary kids.
