You can use a dremel instead of this
This is the right tool for the job - failure to completely remove the indent will damage your threads. I tried just using a chisel to lift the indent but it wasn't perfect causing some damage to the threads and making the removal/install of the nut frustratingly hard. However, if you have a Dremel, you can use it to cut the back of the indent (parallel to the front) and both left & right sides of the indent (the axle has a gap underneath so you won't damage the threads, then use a 1/4" chisel to pop out the piece. This actually worked great. This tool is cheaper than a Dremel, but there's a chance that even with this tool the nut will bend and the threads will grind and still be damaged.I also strongly recommend you get an air impact wrench - those nuts just don't want to come off easily, and/or the new one will be hard to install. An air wrench cuts this job down significantly. An air hammer is also going to be the easiest way to get the hub assembly off - just hammer the ears of the hub left & right until you can get access to the backside of an ear and then hammer it out. Rinse & repeat until you can get it off.

it is by NO means flimsy and has a nice heft to it
Having the right tool makes a world of a difference when working. This tool is the right tool for the job. After struggling to find the right size punch or chisel i researched and found this tool. I wanted to get my rear hub changed so the cost didn't matter much to me as long as the tool work as its suppose to. With just a few taps the crimped portion of the axle nut was straightened and the nut came off without damaging the threads of the outer CV Joint. Seeing this product here on amazon i was a bit skeptic due to its size but when i received the item i was pleasantly surprised , it is by NO means flimsy and has a nice heft to it, I dare say even more so than my chisels and punches of the same size. I was worried about it breaking on first use but my fears were set to rest when i finally used it. It did the job amazingly well and the tool itself didn't get scratched, scuffed neither did the striking end get mushroomed even though i was using about a 2 and a half pound hammer. VERY PLEASED.

Legit
Nice hard metal. Does the Job I use this weekly at Toyota and very please to find quality tools on Amazon that deliver for a fraction of truck prices. I do wish they had a wider base or a thicker one just be careful holding this in your hand while smacking. If it moves it will.jolt your hand and you'll feel it in your boness

Works very well for the intended purpose
I know the description says Toyota and Lexus, but this tool works very well on axle nuts if many different makes and models. Nice cheap simple tool to have around so you're not constantly having to hammer on screwdrivers and stuff

It works!
I tried using various punches and chisels, it straightened it somewhat , then I used an impact to finish the job. It got it off but buggered some of the threads. I ordered this tool so I wouldn't bugger up side 2. It worked! Even though it's expensive, buy the tool and save yourself a headache and the price of a die to fix the threads!

Exact same thing as tool truck brands for 1/3 price
Works exactly as it should. Use it several times a week as I’m a Toyota dealership tech. Save your money from the tool truck guys and buy this

Easier than destroying a flathead screwdriver.
Used to uncaulk an axle nut on a Suzuki SX4.The tip of the tool is rounded (not pointed). Had to initially use a nail to open up the gap between the nut and axle enough for the tool to fit. Afterwards a few hits of a hammer and the deformed portion of the locknut was clear of the axle.
