Q: Are these women's sizes? I am buying for a boy so I might need to do a size conversion.

These are women's sizes and are pretty close to the shoe size you would take in a regular shoe....ps.....these are great shoes with elastic on top and on the sides. They are extremely comfortable. I recommend you do not buy other Bloch jazz shoe styles- buy only this one- because the sole on this one extends all the way to the front tip of the shoe. On some other Bloch jazz shoe styles the front bottom has gathered material, not a smooth sole.

They run true to size but as they r not stiff, on the contrary, they r soft, they might accommodate a wide size
