Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey

This is by far the best book that I have read. It is a very interesting story about a poor boy from village who ended up building an airline. A living example of "where there's a will there's a way". After reading this book, all the problems that one thinks that might be hindering one's progress looks futile.I recommend this book to everybody but more so to those who are willing to do something on their own but don't know what to do, where to start or if they do whether they are going to be successful in their endeavors or not. This book teaches you to be fearless and follow your dreams.

I got the book after reading a short story segment about it in India Abroad weekly.I grew up in a farming family in the Mysore area,served in the Indian army and now in the US as a doctor,but I am still a farmer at heart.To say that Captain Gopinath's life story struck deep chords in my heart is an understatement.In reading his travails as a farmer ,I lost myself.His passion ,courage of conviction ,perseverance ,humility are exemplary. He is master weaver who has woven a fascinating tapestry out his life's story.Indeed ,this book will be a required reading for my son who is high school senior .

It was a learning curve reading this book . In fact Deccan was the first flight boarded by me to visit an interview after my college days .

From humble rural roots to military man to farmer to entrepreneur, captain Gopinath takes us on a journey few have travelled before. This book is both a lesson in Leadership and entrepreneurship.

Great story of true and sincere Indian. The one you feel good while reading as well as recollecting afterwards. Must read

This autobiography not only was a great read but has been very inspiring. Highly recommended for all ages, kids to elderly.

A very good read! You will learn to search your soul and to learn about logical thinking - what else can a courageous soul can acheive with sheer persistence.

I had taken the effort to read this autobiography after Sudha working on a movie about Capt. Gopi and her strong affirmation on that this story needs to be told aloud to the world. I concur her thought fully and Capt. Gopi's life is an interesting roller coaster and must to be told aloud. He is an epitome of 'there is never a roadblock for hardwork'. His work/life covers many examples and how we should not get lost and doors will open if you have the key. I really think the movie work will do only a small part of this work and I suggest this read to everyone who faces multiple challenges, downs personally and often hit a wall by the controllables and uncontrollables.Overall this is a very easy read (should be a cake walk for regular readers) and narrative is lucid; you will not leave this book hanging for sure (i am not a regular). The author has lived his life to full, I would say. His episodes of life whether his early days, entrepreneurial days from a story teller view is well narrated, the takeaway for the reader on how not to get bogged down and how the reality will play out and how to knock all the doors of effort is something you can definitely get away by reading the path he traveled and how the path paved away.From a documentation perspective - this very well covers Deccan Aviation, which is a very beautiful read - infact tells how life will go on and how everyone should over come. I really like his narration especially the first 90% of the book and he also talk about how he added his knowledge/wisdow. I got to learn a lot, especially Henry and you do relationship (external) management and gain. At the same time - this is not a book to understand the finer details or the business case study of how Deccan airlines faced cash crunch and not the story how it folded completely. Wish that could also be covered and he talk more about his last challenges in deep. Nevertheless a fantastic read - A strong read.

Capt Gopinath has brought a great prospective of his life, learnings and entrepreneurship. The book is one of the best biography and the writer is successful in keeping it a page turner. Though i enjoyed reading, it has missed the important part 'the story of failure'. Last parts of the book is abrupt and speaks less on failures. Wish for a sequel.
