4-Film Collection: Film Noir

WB Archive Collection Film Noir Blu-ray. I already owned Out Of The Past but the others were new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed all 4 over the past weekend. Enjoyed listening to the commentaries on each film as well. This collection certainly delivers some beautiful photography & glamorous femmes fatale shooting snappy dialogue(sometimes other things as well) at some poor saps who just might make it out alive if they're clever, fast and/or lucky enough. No issues with playback. I look forward to checking out other Joseph H. Lewis films as well as some of the other Dick Powell noirs. If you can enjoy a sort-of lighter take on the hard-boiled detective you may want to check out the Michael Shayne Mysteries DVD set of 4 films starring Lloyd Nolan. There are others w/Lloyd Nolan as well, but I have not seen them.

An outstanding assembly of noir films to add to your collection. Watch Robert Mitchum & Kirk Douglas get played by Jane Greer in Out of the Pas (1947)t. Enjoy the oner tracking shot in Gun Crazy (1950). See Dick Powell step away from his earlier nice guy image to play Phillip Marlowe in Murder, My Sweet (1944). Empathize with world-weary prize fighter Robert Ryan, just one punch away from a title in The Set-Up (1949). All this AND an excellent documentary about what it takes for a movie to be noir.

Had been looking for Murder My Sweet dvd for months, getting 3 more movies is a bonus

These are all classic noir films, the blu ray discs are perfect

Warner Archive releases this 4-film collection of film noirs in fine HD quality, definite upgrades from the 2004 DVD Film Noir Classic Collection Volume 1("The Asphalt Jungle" was released by Criterion), with all previous extras ported over, though nothing new added. All these films had been released individually on Blu-ray, but here make for a more affordable, compact package. A must for any noir fan

Terrific film package. Happy to own these.

Maybe they are pushing the boundaries of what is film noir, but the transfers are excellent, as are the films, and there is a cool documentary about the genre.
