Family Love
My favorite Silver Oak Medical Center book of the series thus far. Initially I was disappointed that the series would be coming to the to an end after the next story. Then surprisingly a fifth / first book was released, INFECTIOUS LOVE.I'm happy but confused. Anyway getting back to this wonderful book. It was long, detailed, and I loved every sentence.Catching up on the other medical personnel from previous books was nice, but a favorite character, Jason Delancey, a champion for others came forward as a main character to help a newly introduced Nurse Practitioner in the Palliative Care, Luke Reznik. In my college Nurses receive their Masters in Family Nurse Practitioning, so it was a bit of a surprise to find that the Nurse Practitioners in this series all had a PhD. Though more often than not when I go for a doctor's visit I end up actually being seem by the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.I love stories about Single Fathers. So this story immediately captivated me. Then there was the tough but caring General Counsel for the Silver Oak Medical Center with his sharp wit. Who at first was not liked because he came along with the Regent's Corporation new team with all their many unsettling changes &financial cutbacks. Learning new things is always a bonus when reading for pleasure. Palliative Care was a new phrase to me. I had only heard of Hospice Care. It was very interesting how the author set up the contrasting viewpoints from an militant set of religious zealots led by a self-proclaimed messiah misquoting the true meaning of biblical scriptures. Versus the compassionate, empathetic staff of the Palliative Care unit. These medical personnel were entrusted with the last days of a beloved family member who had already made a very tough decision, along with the guidance and support of experienced medical professionals committed to reducing the suffering of all involved.Jason Delancey came involved when the Palliative Unit was hit with a lawsuit by the zealots. He became more determined when he met the divorced Dad Of such a great kid like, Caleb. The author has a way of developing his characters in a manner that you feel invested in what happens to them. Luke Reznik turned out to be Jason's high school crush from Ohio, where the Regent's Corporate headquarters is located.Jason has found those feelings haven't gone away, instead they have intensified as he reacquaints himself with this new Luke. A man who had been terribly hurt along with his son by a drunkard ex-husband. And if that weren't enough Aiden Bates threw a Golden Retriever Rescue that Luke and his two brothers run. What could be better? It's like hitting the trifecta! Not only has Luke found his knight in shining armour, but Caleb has discovered a man he would be proud to emulate, unlike his deadbeat dad. But the course of true love is never easy and there are enough monkey wrenches thrown around in this book to full a large Sears Craftsmen tool box. This couple faced so many obstacles, it was easier to give up than persist. What made it especially difficult is that the people who were supposed to have his back were the ones fighting hardest to keep Luke and his son from being happy. School bullies, brothers, zealots, well meaning friends, frustrating fathers, dogs needing care, lazy dependents, uncaring school personnel, and murderous psychopaths bent on destruction & chaos and of course mpreg.

4.5 twinkling, lovely stars
I'm a sucker for a love story and Aiden Bates delivers a love story a beautiful love story every single time. In this case we have two men who have suddenly found each other again after many years. They were boyfriends at age 15 and haven't seen each other for a long time.I especially love Jason one of the main characters, legal counsel for the hospital. When we talk about flawed characters Jason is not one of them. He consistently put the needs of other people before his own. Luke, on the other hand, palliative care nurse practitioner who is a wonderful patient caregiver but seems to always be playing the submissive role in his family. These two, Luke and Jason, have many obstacles to overcome, within the relationship and the community but as I said before, Aiden Bates always provides a satisfactory happy ever after.

‘Once upon a time, Silver Oak was pretty unique in having a Palliative Care unit.’
Oregon author Aiden Bates began his writing career in journalism (his degrees are in both journalism and creative writing) but his fascination/passion for writing romance erotica won him over and we are the grateful recipients of that decision. ‘ With a fun and playful outlook in his writing, he's committed to bring back quality works with a twist only he can bring to the table. In his free time he enjoys reading smut, going to Bartini and writing in the third person.’ He now has over 50 novels and short stories to his credit. And now Aiden continues his new series THE SILVER OAK MEDICAL CENTER for which this is Book 3 – and a very fine follow-up for an exceptional series. He demonstrates a fine grasp of medical lingo and hospital atmosphere. Another aspect that makes Aiden a special author is his willingness to share the insights of his stories with his readers. In a casually delivered manner he remarks about FAMILY LAW – The real theme of FAMILY LAW is how families grow and change over time. The Salinas brothers are tight knit and support each other, but as the needs of those brothers start to change that support changes too. Jason, as he becomes part of Jason's life, has to adapt to a new and different family dynamic and it's not necessarily one he was prepared for. He knew the Salinas brothers when he was a teenager, but they're all grown men now and Luke is a father. Is Jason ready to become a stepparent, or is that not a challenge he can handle?’The synopsis of the plot readies the reader for the integrated story ahead – ‘Reunited and it feels better than good...It was a long time ago, but Luke will never forget Jason Delancey and their first kiss under the bleachers of football practice. Now, twenty years later, he has a lot more to focus on than the one man who got away. Divorced with a seven-year-old son and a vicious lawsuit against the Silver Oak Medical Center to deal with, Luke has no time for reminiscent feelings of the past. When Jason walks back into his life as the attorney on the case, all of those old emotions and desires come tumbling forth. But when Luke's overprotective brothers try to get in the way of a reunion between the long-lost lovers, it's up to Jason and Luke to fight for what they couldn't have so long ago. And the fight is harder than they ever imagined as they go up against Luke's family and a lawsuit that's determined to destroy them. With their future family on the line, can these two finally overcome family law and retrieve the love they were destined to find?Aiden has that ability to make a new relationship fun, keep it realistic, and then manages to toss some hurdles in the way to show how most anything cannot overcome real love. Another solid winner for Aiden Bates, Grady Harp, May 17

Family is always complex but love does win
What happens when you take a palliative care nurse, a lawyer, a couple of well-meaning brothers, a cult and a rambunctious child and put them all together? You have another fantastic book by Aiden Bates.Family Law is a wonderful addition to the Silver Oak group and I loved Luke from the opening pages. In this story Aiden explores the complexity of law, opinion and the right to express one's rights for free speech. The bringing together of law and medicine creates a different story and then you add a group with their own agenda was a twist. For me the way Aiden brings various unusual ideas together and somehow makes them work is something I have grown to appreciate in his stories. I think he was very clear in discussing the impact adults have on a child added to the story and I adored Caleb. I was so glad that he received his happily ever after at the end.Again this was a well written and engaging book and if not for having to work would have read it all in one setting. Congratulations to Aiden on such a fantastic addition to the series. It was great to be able to touch base with previous characters from the previous books and I hoping that we get Allen's story soon because I think he has helped out Carter and Luke and deserves his HEA."I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book"

Good read
Just a bit drawn out. It got a little bit boring and frustrating in certain parts. Not as good as the first book.
