What's the difference between a 3 ply and 4 ply mask? NOT small particle filtration, i.e NOT Covid protection.BACKGROUND: A 3 ply mask has one middle layer made of meltblown fabric. That's what's doing the filtration (i.e. aerosolized water droplets with Covid-19). The outer and inner layers are are made of the sturdier spunbond fabric, they provide structure and splash protection.THIS PRODUCT: Turns out, this 4 ply mask (like most 4 ply masks) has an extra outer layer (spunbond). This will improve splash protection, but makes mask harder to breathe through, and does not improve small-particle filtration.EARLIER REVIEW: Someone left a review saying this mask had two layers of the meltblown (small particle filtration) fabric, but I cut a mask open and that is just wrong.The extra (4th) fabric layer is splash protection (spunbond) fabric. But what's unusual is that it is white instead of blue, so that's probably why the reviewer was confused. If you take a closer look the fabric is clearly spunbond (splash protection) not meltblown (filtration) fabric.WHY 4 PLY? So why would you want a 4 ply mask? If you're actually a surgeon and going to encounter lots of splashing blood or splashing saliva, then this is a good mask (for a splash protection mask I would give this a four or five star rating). If you want Covid protection, there's no improvement of this over a three ply mask. It just makes it harder to breathe through.COVID: Also, if you're really concerned about this getting a mask that safer for Covid, then the air leaking around the mask is a far larger problem. Hence the best solution is to wear a 3 ply mask and a second cloth mask over it to minimize the leakage around the sides etc. (per new Feb 2021 CDC guidelines).CREDENTIALS: I'm a product designer with a degree in microbiology.

They don't seem like they're a level 3 and the ear loops are huge, nose piece is not very good either... probably won't use

These masks are 4 ply - very, very thin. The problem is they gape at the cheeks & the ear loops are HUGE. As a nurse, I know that the masks must be snug to the face - any gaps allow air to escape/enter - rendering them useless. They came packaged 10 to a sealed package. Once opened & tried on - unable to return. What a waste of money.It might work for someone with a beard. But for the average person - about as useful as a bandanna. They might work if you only want them for dust, but pretty spendy for that. Definitely not worth the $27 I paid.

I am so sad. These had good reviews, but the stink, I cannot wear them.

These are comfortable enough to wear all day. My glasses don't fog as they do with other masks. I assume that's because they do a better job of containing moisture when I exhale. And that means less gets in too.

1st I wanted one extra layer of protection. Not just 3 layers these masks do have 4 Layers to them.I too cut mine open after reading the other comment of uncertainty as to 4 actual layers.4 layers have been confirmed I personally randomly opened one mask with an Exacto knife chose 1 out of 50 cut it open both in front and back.I love these and will be re-buying again when I'm close to running out.My wife and daughter ( both of whom are smaller in stature ) think they seem to be a little large to their liking. They tie the back ear loops so they fit snugly on their face.I'm content with this mask. I also spent 1 hour time researching the best ones on here.Look no further if Real protection is what you're after. I will be buying again.

These are the best I have tried, they are durable and 4ply (I cut it open to check) and better than the 3ply ones I have tried. Not 95 level and it will let in some air which they all do in this surgical style mask but best in surgical types I have gotten. I am reordering more.
