Seagate 4TB Portable Hard Drive | USB 3.0 (STGX4000400)

I paricularly like Seagate Hard Drives for storage they were my first large storage 4 TB units and I have had them 4 years without problems and perfect storage no flaws in playback. I have extensive film archives on one and photos on another ehich are usef often, and always work well and I am approaching storage challenges again, so time to get another without reservation.

Massive storage and easy to use. You may lament the time it takes to transfer files but this is a limitation of PCs, USB etc. and not of this device. Best advice is to back up all your files frequently and then keep this drive at a remote, secure location

Bought this to backup my data from a PC HDD. It's plug and play with my windows 11. To transfer data i copied and pasted files and folders from my PC HDD to the ex HDD. Write speeds were 120 MB/s which is quick enough for me. I've not tested read speeds yet but i think the read speeds will be similar to the write speeds. I think the price i paid for this ex HDD is definitely worth it.

Bought the drive for my new Apple Mac mini computer. Does what its suppose to but be aware its not plug and play and will not work straight out of the box as it appears to be set up for windows. You need to erase the drive and reformat it with the Apple APFS format, it will then work fine. Nothing I could see in the instructions to inform you of this requirement.

Great value portable drive. Good capacity. Easy to use. Could do with being beefed up a bit in build quality simply so it can travel better. Recommended though.

Easy to use. Lits of space

I bought this in February 2024 and it was brilliant. Until I had an accident in January this year when it flew through thr air and hit my cube unit and it caused fatal damage. Seagate have a 2 year warranty with a data recovery plan. I was just in time. They sent me a recertified 5tb drive and then a month after sending my faulty drive off I got an email to say the recovery was successful. I got a second drive in the post with my 2.5tb data there. 96.8% was successfully recovered and the other 3.2% was there in a file called BadFiles. And all those were amongst my files on my 2tb backup drive. A very valuable service and I'm really pleased to have chosen seagate. The second drive was a 5tb PS5 game drive so now thinking about buying another drive so I can use that as a game drive.

Bought because my last hard drive was used with a Windows computer and wasn't recognised by my new Apple MacBook Air which, for me, is a learning curve. Anyway, I decided rather than reformat the old hard drive and possibly corrupt/lose music, photos, documents etc. I'd buy a new one. The last one is a Seagate, which I've had for years, so I expect some longevity from the new one. What I found was that I had to reformat the hard drive from a Windows setting to suit the Apple Macbook. Once I discovered how this was achieved it was plain sailing. The hard drive is compact, makes no noise (though I'm apparently a bit deaf), looks good, has been reliable and has held data with no issues (I'm now past the half way storage mark).

Very happy with this purchased. The product itself was packaged very well and was protected very well.Ordered on the 15th July and was told it will arrive on the 29th but arrived 8 days earlier. The transfer speed is amazing.Now my phone and tablet has all it's memory back and I don't have to waste time looking for files to delete to create more space on them.

Seems like an excellent product. No issues starting up and transfers really fast. I got a protective rubber wrap around for it as it seems quite light and probably doesn't' have a lot of protective shielding.

Works perfectly with pc and macbook and nvidia shield, upload speed at around 120 mb/s.

I really like the speed of this drive and the large capacity 5 TB and for a relatively low price. Setup was easy. Plugged it into my laptop and register and it was ready to go. I bought the drive to migrate files from my 12 year old laptop and external 2 TB drive that were no longer supported by Microsoft or the manufacturers. Connectivity became an issue in the latest Microsoft update so I figured it was time to upgrade. The Seagate drive was totally backward compatible with my old laptop and consistently transferred data at 1-2 Mbps. Much better than the old external drive. I used robocopy for some of the files and the drive kept up to the software just fine. Transfer speeds of the files to my new laptop were about 10 times faster and now I'm using the external drive for data backup of the new laptop and as the main storage for my pictures and videos (from the past 5 decades of my life), that number over 20000 files (1.8 TB approximately). It's practically the same speed as my internal hard drive for loading files. The pictures are backed up to a cloud service too so I always have duplicates. As the headline says, I'm thoroughly impressed with this Seagate drive and would recommend it to anyone looking for large storage needs.
