1) replace the twangy stock tom heads with some nice hydraulics (keep them in your cymbal bag as spares ...
I use my RT on a weekly basis for rehearsals and small stages. Everyone is blown away and thinks it's an electric kit because there's no way my "toy" kit is making that much noise. Couple of small mods I made for playing professionally:1) replace the twangy stock tom heads with some nice hydraulics (keep them in your cymbal bag as spares if you'd like)2) replace the thin snare head with a nice professional battered head3) put a nice kick protector on the the battered head of the kick drum and it'll last a long time4) donate the cymbals that come with it to charity or a kid down the street, don't even bother5) because the floor tom is kinda thin sounding, I shelved it and play mine as a 4 piece with the 13" snare, 10" & 12" toms, and a 16" crash/ride hanging right over the kick where the second tom would go (see pic)6) mute the kick drum with a travel pillow ($4 @ Walmart) I wound up taping mine to the batter head as it shifted around a lot during transport.7) Tune the kick as low as you can and use a quality mic (I prefer a D-112 on mine) and it'll sound amazing!8) hang a Gibraltar cup holder off the high tom mount and you're good to go with a cold beer always in reach! Also, considering porting the resonate kick head as it shoots a LOT of air out of the tiny grommet on the kick drum.Sounds like a lot of changes, but just saying these little mods have turned this toy kit into a money maker for me!

Get this Kit
I'm glad I got this kit. It has since has been discontinued. Pearl now has come out with a POD kit, which looks really cheesy and has smaller toms and kick, and the kick sits way above the floor. the POD looks like a weird octopus (or should I say quad opus). Anyway, I've used the Rhythm Traveler on gigs. I've changed the heads to Evans G2's and the sound is really good. Moon Gel may be needed as they really ring out.I like the mesh heads for silent practicing. Play them anytime and you will not disturb anyone. The cymbals are worthless, so don't expect too much from them. However, the hardware is solid. For the money you are getting something worthwhile, even with the low grade cymbals.I'd say get this rig before you can't find them anymore. You will have to spend some cash for some decent cymbals.I own a 1964 set of Ludwigs which I only bring out on special occasions. You can't compare, but I have no regrets using the Rhythm Traveler on regular gigs, and for practicing.Set up is fast, as they have memory locks for the toms. Tear down is quick too.Get em while they last.

Great for what it is
This set is great for practice sessions with the band, when I don't want to set up my full regular kit. The sound is pretty good if you throw away the live heads that they give you and put pinstripes or hydraulics on the toms and an aquarian superkick II on the kick drum. The mesh heads are quiet with good response. The cymbals sound about as good with the mufflers on as off. Hardware is nice. Got a single chain pedal with mine!
