Adventure and amusement.
The adventures of a hero thrown back in time and given a chance to change his future continues with his preparation and adventure but throws a curve ball as another women enters his life in a hilarious way. It had me chortling laughter which feels good in a book you are reading while still keeping the drama and feel of adventure by not devolving into slapstick comedy. I highly recommend this series and if you have read the first 2 you have a good idea of the ride these adventure books will take you.

Better than book 2!
Book 2 was a bit of a dip when it came to pacing but book three came back with a vengeance. I'm really enjoying the character development and how the author is taking his time with relationship development. The past and present split is equally enjoyable and I don't feel like I'm trying to push through one section to get to the main story.

Getting better with mild spoilers
The story in and of itself hasn't really progressed, and I am fine with that seeing as the author explained it in his author note in book 2. There are still a number of what I consider a writing faux pas that if you read past don't really degrade the story they just take a moment to try and inderstand. For example, "Panic rose inside of me, but I kept calm..." this is not of the milder cases but if he is keeping g calm then the panic is not rising. Still the writing is getting better with fewer of these poorly written descriptions. Book 1 and 2 I felt were rife with them.Additionally, I personally skip over all the dream text. I don't care to know about the used to be relationships and how things used to be before the reincarnation. He is here now and I only care about where we go going forward. To that note I'm happy to hear that book 4 will only have 2 of these dream sequences.Over all I know the author is worried about the quality of his writing and whether people like it. Honestly I think he is progressing and I understand he already has the next 100 or so books written, but the quality improvements still show. The editing is even improving. My 2 largest concerns with the writing is the smut and the money useage. Firstly, the smut only happens on the dream text which I understand, but its basically just his wife/gf Kari whoring herself out to him like a married couple. Again this makes sense in a way, but I care about the now/future where a harem is unintentionally being built with a butterfly effect happening to boot. While I read smut from time to time I feel as if it doesn't add anything to this story yet and I feel it's more a retraction. Finally the money. The author I feel just needs to get a better grasp of how he wants the monetary system to work and then write it better. A 5 room home for 46k and then plans on spending another 50k to furnish it? Ultimate it was 29k but then moving costs are another 3k. Admittedly the furniture is hand made but every time money comes up I just have to read past the numbers. The sense of value where money is used is disproportionate to where it should be. Hell I think he spent 30k on clothes in book 2.The writing has its kinks to work out but over all I am enjoying the main plot arc. Good job.

A great continuation
I really enjoyed reading this book because it continues to develop the characters and the plot. The cultivation aspect is accessible, and the characters are engaging. The more of this series I read, the more it feels like the first read should be done while skipping the dream sequences. Not because there is anything wrong with them, but it feels like it breaks up the continuity of the story.Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I would get more out of the dream sequences on a second read, after having already read the story once.

Oh well to late to stop
I know that title was kind of cryptic but it was meant to be. The slow progress of the story is annoying but I understand. Eryk is a powerful guy. He has reached the third stage as hints have been left throughout the book. The question is will he underestimate Grant not being at the third stage also? Will he use the minimum amount of power to defeat his opponents? Will Grants defeat quicken the Overlord’s return? The question I have next is will he fall in love with Lin or Fay next? Also what is up with the rune on her chest? Will Fay and Lin also have runes? Was Kari killed because if Eryk brings all three together he becomes a great warrior? When will he realize that Fay is his other love after Kari? All of these questions must be answered next. Also we need more illustrations. They are very good and help us give a picture(see what I did there)of what something should be.

Great continuation
The way Lin was introduced was slightly cliched, but still a classic way to go. After all, who wouldn't want to wake up seeing an exotic beauty in their arms. Also, it's easy to see that Eryck is starting to have feelings for more than just his lover, since he is allowing Fay to continue training with him and that he's allowed Lin to remain his roommate. I feel that the more the story develops, the more complex things will become for Eryck and everyone that is/will be in his life, especially since the cancer in this city is starting to act against Eryck due to fear or pride; either way, the possibility of them aiming for him more often is very high.

Great read...
I am giving this 4 stars because this was a great read, obviously. I read the three books that are released one after the other in quick succession. That's the reason for the four rather than five stars. These books are ENTIRELY too short. I am not only disappointed from a reading standpoint, I'm disappointed from a value standpoint. To the author: You need to seriously rethink the length you are selling a $5.00 book for. It's a quality read but come on bud, two books in a day? I'm not a speed reader by any means. I didn't even sit and read all day. These books are definitely too short. That is all

Very funny but obvious inspirations
The book was well made. There were no real gaps in the story line and the retelling of the future memories of Eryk was well integrating. At the same time one notices in his writing style that he takes inspirations from many mangas and animes. I mean a female lamia who cries "darling ", he he he. Anyway well done

It hurts so good
I love this series. By far my favorite by this author. But by God it's so painful waiting for new entries. And mind you I say this with the best of intentions in mind. It's a compliment to both Brandon varnells writing as well as the story progression thus far. Unfortunately that still means that this series suffers the one problem that any slow burn will face. That being that it's slow. With a tournament arc in the coming volume and the mc slowly showing his true self to the world around him it's gonna get real spicy hopefully soon. Side note though... Lamia waifus are always a win. Need the next book like yesterday.
