Review of Tomb Raider Volume 3
I've read the comics contained in this volume, but the volumes are very convenient and they are in trade paperback which is in better condition than the standard comics.

An interesting tale
The third volume of the Tomb Raider comics set between the two latest games is, in my opinion, the best out of the three volumes. In this story arc Lara and her friends receive a video that seems to show someone they thought dead is still alive and kidnapped by a criminal group (but things are not quite as they seem though). This story is set shortly before Rise of the Tomb Raider and ties in fairly well with it. You learn the reason why Sam is absent by then and you see the beginnings of Lara's true investigations into her father's old research which becomes very plot important in the game. The antagonists in this volume are the best so far out of the three volumes. They make more sense than the antagonists of Volume 1 and their motivations are more clear than the antagonists of Volume 2.It is also interesting to see the new things Lara learns about her father in this volume.A pretty interesting read.

Another Croft Rescue Mission
I would started this review saying it wasn’t all bad it was better than the other two volumes. It also has book spoilers so you have been warned. This arc succeeds in the new grounded Lara as this volume as opposed to the other volumes and games (rise of the tomb raider and tomb raider 2013) doesn’t involve Lara defeating an entire army. But boy does it have some bad writingLara finds out that Grim is alive and is kidnap by a bandit group in Mexico called the snakes who walk, lead by the serpent queen.Lara believes it despite Grim dying no where near Mexico but there was no body so Lara sets offLara and the gang go to Mexico post as monster documentary crew looking for the mythical chupacabra which was clever I will give them thatDuring this time Sam Lara’s best friend is acting weird it is revealed that Himiko the Sun Queen that tried to comeback by possessing Sam’s body twice. This seeming important development is ignored and written off as Sam just ends up going to Jail and hates Lara disavowing herLara just goes okey dokey and goes off like nothing happened plans her next adventure which was the story of RiseThe comic has the same writer and it's never mentioned in rise. It explains why Sam wasn’t in Rise but it is rather pointless seeing how a big reveal is written offGrim is still dead but it was his Twin Brother which is just a boring accountant which was pretty cheapThe villain the serpent queen reveals she knew Lara’s father Richard and was smitten with himHer motives are awful she wanted Lara to give her money simple? Wrong because she knew Lara didn’t have the inheritance her uncle does and was living a common life in London and not in the manorSo what was the end game? Hell if I know as Lara ends up escaping with Grim’s brother Sam kills one the guards with a machete due to that pointless possession sub plotLara and the gang escape back home and the Serpent Queen just leaves them alone from now on after sending men to spy on them and sending a ransom threaten to kill GrimWhy does the Serpent Queen have a change of heart? After Lara’s escape ended up with one of her men dead and no gains just loss. Just cause the plot says soThen it ends with a set up to Rise of the Tomb Raider a great game but this comic is notIts mediocre at best and it’s the best arc in the series it shows how bad the series is I can sum up all three volumes like this, Volume 1 Lara has to save Sam in the island again, Volume 2 Lara has to save Kaz Alex’s sister in chernobyl Volume 3 Lara has to save Grim’s Twin brother in the Yucatan. On top of that the art is just bad. Here’s what the comic does right the psychlogy of Lara she’s messed up and paranoid which is great after all the things that has happened to her really push the realistic grounded Lara they been trying to portray since the 2013 reboot. However the good in this graphic novel and the series in general is buried in mediocrity. Better off just playing the games.
