I love this Vietnamese coffee maker! It’s made of durable stainless steel and brews a perfect cup every time. The slow-drip filter really brings out the rich, authentic flavor of the coffee. It’s easy to use, easy to clean, and the compact size is perfect for single servings. Great for anyone who enjoys traditional Vietnamese coffee at home!

Perfect size and produces a nice brew
Perfect for making Vietnamese coffee or any other coffee or tea. Brews perfectly for all beverages I brewed so far and it's really easy to clean. Fits nicely on top of all the cups I own and saves a whole lot of counterspace. I really enjoyed using this product.

Detailed Breakdown of why 4 stars - Issues but also just a good cup of Joe & different
(-2 stars) - I like it, but it was supposed to be the gravity one, not the screw down. (+1 star for my mistake) - However, I see I probably messed up last-minute when I changed the size. (+2 stars) - That being said, this is an AWESOME instrument for making really rich and flavorful "Vietnamese-Style" coffee! I have never had Vietnamese coffee, which I why I gave the quotation marks, but it is yummy once you kind of figure it out. (-1 star) - I will say, the instructions are lackluster...Like, how coarse should the coffee be? What does 1/3 to 1/2 full mean for this mechanism? (-1 star) - With the phin too full, you can barely screw down the thingy. (-1 star) - THEN, I had to use an actual pair of plier tools to grip and twist the filter off because it was stuck. Also, the coffee took forever the first time using, and it was cold by the time it came out. Again, that's why knowing grind size would be nice, a little more info. I should have gone with the actual Vietnamese company, honestly. Find one of those if you want more detailed instructions probably, or at least more traditional atmosphere. (+1 star) - But the quality seems fine and sturdy - not cheap - and it is cute and works and seems overall nice especially for being about $5 cheaper for this size (they can be really small, these Phine coffee makers!)

Well made and polished coffee filter
This coffee filter is very well made. All the holes have smooth edges that will not snag the wash cloth. It’s a well polished and shows detail craftmanship. It’ is easy to use and clean. It eliminates the use of filter paper. The coffee retains its oil and is full bodied brew.

Solid Phin Filter Option
This works and makes good coffee. But there is a learning curve. I have a small gravity pain filter but wanted to try screw filter. The filter doesn’t have a way to use a spoon or screwdriver to loosen, you will need pliers. If there is water in the bolt portion, the heat will make it hard to remove. If you over tighten, you will need pliers. I usually spin the filter until it stops. If the grind is too small or too compact. It will take a long time to drip. I find a medium grind to work. The grinds still come up around the filter but less than with a gravity filter. This size will make a 12 oz cup of coffee. I start with about 3-4 T of creamer and about 1-2 T of flavoring depending on taste. Then I filter coffee into a 12 oz mug. I allow grinds to bloom by pouring boiling water up half up the stem and wait one minute. Usually the water filters out but not always. I then fill to close to the top, about a 1/4-1/2 inch from top. It can take anywhere from 3-10 minutes to filter. If it is too slow. You might need to loosen the filter. The whole thing is very easy to hand wash and clean. It would be five stars if I did not need a clean set of mini pliers.

Recommended by a Vietnamese friend
I was recently given some Vietnamese Robusta coffee by a friend who got it from home. This is the Phin filter he uses; this larger size allows him to brew larger batches for cold coffee drinks. He advised me to screw down the inner top to the filter tightly, more than the manufacture recommends. Even though it takes longer to brew this way, the results are worth it, yielding a thick, rich, velvety texture to Vietnamese coffee. About this particular product - it's solidly made and the price point is very reasonable. It does a great job making traditional Vietnamese coffee. The instructions are very well written and easy to follow. My friend advised using more coffee, filling to roughly half the chamber, but that makes it harder to screw down the top of the filter. I like having the cork handles, but that means the main chamber can't go in the dishwasher. Coffee brewed this way leaves a fair bit of oil, so get the dishwasher safe handle if you're not down for hand washing. This thing really conducts heat, so be very careful if you want to take off the top lid while it's brewing! If you buy ground coffee from Vietnam it should work perfectly. If you grind yourself, you want a very fine grind like for Aeropress or a Moka Pot. It should be just a touch more coarse than an espresso grind. If you buy pre-ground coffee at an American grocery store, Cafe Bustelo would probably work best as they grind for Moka pot users. Also the flavor profile of Bustelo would be a nice fit to this style of brewing.

Small brim and screw tightening.
It’s smaller than what I was used to. The brim should be wider to sit comfortably on a coffee cup. The inside is a screw tightening to keep the the coffee ground pressed; makes it hard to press the coffee. It should just be a push pin mechanism that allows for simpler operations to press the coffee grounds. Poor functionality and harder to use.

Rusted
Poor quality. Rust started forming on the inside after just 1 use.
