I have gone through several sellers before I decided to order my book. This is the first time I purchased form this seller. It is a good experience. The shipping is speedy with simple yet secured packaging. The price is very competitive which is a bonus for grad students like me! I will order from this seller again.

I was hoping for a concise introduction to the subject of Modernism, presented in a way that would help me remember what I'd read. I find diagrams, maps, and illustrations helpful in retaining information, so felt this book would be aimed at me. I felt disappointed by the end of it; the book is supposed to be an 'illustrated guide' but fails on several points. The illustrations don't really add much. The author writes a block of text on a subject, and identifies a key point. In a magazine or web article this point would be highlighted in some way, probably in its own box in the margin. In this book, the point is usually assigned to a speech balloon for a line drawing of the person who said it. Well I assume that's who they are, as they're not always identified.That's generally the only function of the pictures. There are pictures of modernist artists, but very few pictures of modernist artworks. I'm sure copyright has much to do with that, but it's not much help to me. There are some timelines near the front, closely packed texts with no illustrations to help recall. I wanted a book where the illustrations convey information and aid in its retention. Here they just seem like a gimmick, required so this book can fit in a series of such releases.

I love these books. So clear and clever. Get you right into a new subject. This one full of insights and very clear.
