Let the buyer beware. Before unboxing I called Road Angel to enquire as to the initial subscription period and costs thereafter.... "NONE, NO SUBSCRIPTION INCLUDED - ANOTHER c.£95 a year now - or it'll disconnect in five days ….. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT MATE".

Lots of issues with subscription activation over a three week period, with Road Angel customer services not answering the phone, not returning calls and kept saying oh this will fix the issue. Unit kept crashing, reseting and not detecting cameras. Past Road Angel units were really good, shame about this one.UPDATEHave returned unit over 3 weeks ago for it to be fixed, called Road Angel for an update and their answer was we aim for 7-10 days yet we are busy so you will have to wait. Also they had it logged in as a battery issue, not the actual fault.

So - first live testing today. Came across a mobile camera van, double backed a couple of times, but the Road Angel Pure failed to detect anything.Following discussions with customer services, the way this works is by triangulation witha) alerts sent by other road users who have Road Angel Pure devices (? population size of Road Angel Pure road users??)b) historic locations of vansc) weekly database updates from police and Dept of Transport re possible locations of mobile camera vansIt can apparently detect live lasers (i.e. police officers hiding in hedges with handheld laser speed devices). Of course this is the minority now. Mainly it is fixed cameras and mobile camera vans.So - bottom line - if you want potentially false reassurance, invest in this expensive device and pay the expensive annual subscription. Otherwise, avoid!Oh and when I asked for a complaint to be escalated, as this had been mis-sold to me, I was told I needed to put it in writing and email their General Manager.

I am afraid I did not last very long with mine...The setup is unnecessarily complicated, the app looks like it is v0.1 not v 1.1.I do like the size of it and the mounting is better than in the old days.However its measurement of my speed was way off and not consistent. I find with WAZE on my phone that my car speedometer (RS6) is 1-2mph over; for example car says 71mph and Waze says 69mph. At 30 on the car Waze maybe says 29. All as expected.With the Pure the car would say 50 and the Pure would say 53, then a couple of miles later the Pure said 48 whilst the car was still on 50 on cruise control. Was similar at 70 and 30mph. Not consistently over or under.As a result it will give you weird alerts, telling you to slow down when you don't need to and maybe not telling you to slow down when you should.As a result I sent it back; given speed detection is the primary function this made it not much use for me and I will go back to using Waze, which is free and has all the same alerts, albeit without an average speed readout during average speed zones.A shame as I really wanted to like it.

Purchased with a high level of trepidation bearing in mind the spate of recent poor reviews of this device.I went ahead based on the fact that I considered it likely that Road Angel will have already resolved many issues via firmware updates.Unfortunately it appears to be work in progress.….Good PointsSize, has a clear bright display, cam database accuracy.Bad Points.Poor travelling speed measurement leading to incorrect alerting.Came with 5 day trial which didn’t work out of the box.No built in access to setup – have to use phone/tablet/pc which is nuisance every time.Touch buttons easy to inadvertently press.Faffing after-sales process involving - registration, activation, delays, phone calls to support, and frustration.Very expensive subscription price.OperationI had no issues with the unit resetting, failing to charge, or overheating….(firmware: 2.6.0.2604)The on/off touch button was forever being activated when handling and was a bit of a pain.On the road, things fared badly, and I found that the display of my travelling speed lagged waaayy behind my speedo.It gets there but it takes far too long – more than long enough to unwittingly pick up 3 points.Failing to measure this accurately was a showstopper for me and I have returned the unit as ‘unfit for purpose’.I also saw the reading varying when trolling along an open motorway, on cruise control, and with full satellite visibility.As a quick check I loaded the (free) Tom Top Speed Camera app on my phone. It worked perfectly in the above areas – and I will stick with that for now.Pity really, because like many, I would rather have a dedicated device that works and looks right.Have to say that the guys at RoadAngelGroup have been helpful and hinted about improvements to the antennae by Christmas time which may cut the lag in response.

Not as described or marketed very expensive and subscription needed that’s inaccurate on road speed limits. I have been passed numerous speed camera vans and it has not picked them up. It allegedly got a laser detection built in, this does not work with camera vans. I have a number of road which have have been reduced for over 6 months from 40 to 30 mph it still thinks they are all 40 mph. The subscription It’s a bit of a scam to be honest I bought mine and paid for the year it’s over £100 and does not cover smart motorways which is one of the main reasons I wanted it they want to charge extra on the subscription for this. It’s not worth it it’s inaccurate as it is there is no way I am paying any more to them. This is an honest review I can’t understand for the life of me how it got rave reviews by auto trader they must have been given a back hander. So in summary this is only as good as a built in sat nav that lets you know where the fixed camera sites are. It lets you know some other things like sites where camera vans sometime stop but I have never seen a camera van in such an area. There data base must be well out of date. Probably the most overrated device I have ever bought with a yearly subscription that is a huge money spinner and not worth it.....
