Murder, She Wrote: Prescription for Murder

Outstanding add to the Murder She Wrote Series
There are about 30 books in this series, and all have them have been top notch. This was no exception. In fact, this was very memorable, and had twists and turns in it- that brought Dr. Seth Hazlitt (Jessica's best friend in Cabot Cove, Maine) front and center into the mystery. Dr. Hazlitt befriended a Doctor seeking a cure for Alzheimer's disease and was getting funding for it from people who were hoping for a big payoff. The catch is that the doctor and his wife also fled Cuba and found asylum in the U.S. There were a number of people with stakes in the doctor's research, including people in high places. The book has an interesting ending and was enjoyable and memorable. Usually it takes me a couple of weeks to finish a novel, but I finished this in five days flat- I couldn't put it down. Of course, I highly recommend it.

prescription for murder
All things Murder She Wrote, I had seen this book in Krogers about a year ago and thought, it will be there next week when I go shopping, well guess what?? It was gone!! I got desperate to find it. I went online to books stores, in town, and even went to real store books outside of town to find it, but guess what?? It was gone from those places too,so, off to Ebay where I've have had great sucess, and sure enough, there it was. I am estatic!! What a wonderful read it was, from Seths point of view and also to get a bit more of an idea of the awesome friendship with Jessica and Seth. This book and others are as good as when the show was on the air. Seller was awesome as well, got exactly what the seller said I would get, overall, 1000+ percent and beyond!! Whooo Hoooo!!!

A Look at Cuba
Let me preface by saying I have read all of these novels. While I liked the TV show, I like the books much better. Donald Bain is the writer of these novels and the one thing I can say is that he does do his homework regarding the various settings for these novels. This one is in Florida for the most part dealing with the Cuban community. Basically Seth (the town MD) gets involved with a researcher who is trying to find a "cure" for Alzheimer's Disease and drags Jessica into the mix. The rest of the book is about this situation and the many twists and turns that make for good reading in this series. I found this one particularly interesting as I really did not know much about the Cuban communities here in the states or in Cuba and this books gives you a glimpse into this group of people including the type of food they eat to some of the political hot topics. I found this a book I could not put down until I had finished it. It is an easy read and the characters come to life (as always in these books). I highly recommend this one as well as the series. Even if you were not a really big fan of the series, I think the books would keep your interest and make a you a fan of the Murder, She Wrote genre.

Intriguing from the get-go
Jessica Fletcher’s plan to take in some R &R in Tampa with good friend Dr. Seth Hazlitt are dashed after she meets Seth’s new pal, the charismatic Dr. Alvaro Vasquez, a Cuban defector working on a cure for Alzheimer’s which, if successful, could result in big bucks for his investors. Jessica’s unease with Vasquez and his work are compounded when he dies suddenly at a lavish party at his home – setting the stage for a fast-paced whodunit that keeps the reader guessing until its terrifying and exciting conclusion… Be warned: This page-turner is no ordinary outing with the beloved Jessica. Vasquez’s death brings out the softer side of the normally crusty Seth. And to this reader’s surprise, it is Seth, not Jessica, who shines as the mystery heads to the finish line. Jessica, albeit her curious and observant self, is relegated to the role of supportive friend… Intriguing from the get-go, Prescription for Murder is the perfect remedy if you’re craving a complex yet entertaining tale filled with mysterious characters, plots twists and adventure.

Did the author actually look at a Map of Tampa? I wonder!
Let me begin by saying that I am a long time fan of the show, having watched the entire series at least three times. Also I have read many of the novels so I chose this one as my next read because it takes place in the city I have called home for over 50 years, Tampa, on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. The plot was OK but I really had to laugh (and groan) with the way Mr. Bain had Jessica and Seth running around the city. To me the most absurd situation was when they went to the ME's office. They went by cab but decided, "since it was a nice day", they would walk back. No one in his right mind - except maybe an Olympic athlete - would attempt to walk to downtown Tampa from the ME's office (which is on N. 40th - aka McKinley Blvd and not N. 46th) because that would be an 11 mile trek. I think even stouthearted Jessica would find that taxing. -- In going from downtown to the storage unit on S. McDill they should not have made any wrong turns, unless they just missed the street. Downtown to S. McDill is a straight shout out Kennedy Blvd and a left on S. McDill -- And if I remember correctly, when they drove to Davis Islands (yes it is plural, there are two islands) Mr. Bain had them turn off of Kennedy Blvd. onto Davis Blvd. This is an impossibility since Davis Blvd. does not start until you have crossed the bay and are on the island proper. Maybe I am being too picky but is seems with all the research that went into the history of the cigar industry in Ybor City (and by the way, that is pronounced Ee-bore for those you of who are unfamiliar with the area) a bit more attention should have been payed (poetic license aside) to the correctness of the area's geography. His description and history of The Columbia Restaurant were spot on and it, along with Bern's Steak House, which was also mentioned, are two of Tampa's finest eating establishments.

Another Wonderful story
My wife loves reading about Jessica's adventures and I have purchased all of the books for her so far. She has asked me to post this review . She is off work sick with the flu and has decided to read Prescription For Murder. This book is one of the best that she has read. Jessica is in Florida promoting her new book. She takes an extended break to have a bit of rest and relaxation and to meet up with Seth who is visiting a friend, a scientist. I wont tell you any more except that we see a slightly different side of Seth's character. Well worth purchasing, as are all of the Murder She Wrote Books.

incredible
The conclusion was done in just a couple of pages when the matter was too complicated, a bit incredible for my taste.
