Glasgow

Just as I remembered as a kid
Glasgow was very run down when I was under the age of ten this book shows how bad it was.

Could have been better
I found the book quite boring. There are maybe 4 interesting photos and a lot of filler.

Wonderful, unique portrayal of a lost city
I bought this for my dad who moved to Glasgow from London in the early 1960’s. It brought back many memories for him, mainly ones of being chased by knife and hammer wielding gangs through the vast canyons of dismantled tenements in Springburn. Most of the photos seem to be of Govan and just to the east of the city centre, a few that look like they were outside central station. It’s utterly fascinating, but also evokes feelings of melancholy. Seeing a city which gave so much to the UK being left to disintegrate like this and the clear effect that that abandonment had on the people living in Glasgow is heavily documented, but this is one of the best collection of street photographs that I’ve seen. Fantastic quality prints, highly recommended.
