Oatey31261 Blue Pipe Joint Compound, 4 fl-ounces

I always use some sort of thread joint compound when I use Teflon tape. It proves to be a reliable sealant that is easily removed. It also makes plumbing joints easy to unscrew in the future. This thread sealant came in a small plastic container that was sealed in a plastic bag to prevent leakage in shipping. When I removed the container from the bag, there appeared to be a small amount of oily leakage from the container which I dried with a paper towel. There is a small applicator brush integral to the cover. Since the service rating includes hot water, I used it to seal the threads on a new water heater anode rod that had been wrapped with Teflon tape. After gently tightening the threads on the new rod, I checked for leaks. There were none. Mission accomplished. While I used this compound on metal fitting threads, it should be useful for PVC screw on fittings, too. The compound is a bit oily, and that probably explains why it does not dry out and harden after application.

Container was open when I received it! Need to tape the applicator lid on or design a more secure lid!

Versatile product that works well to seal pipe connections. Be sure to mix well before using as it separates and will be too oily and thin. It does take a while to fully cure but it's easy to use and easy clean up.

Fitting with teflon tape began to leak. I tried using teflon tape again to no avail. The joint compound did the trick.

I’d give it a 5 star but the lid was off when it arrived so that took off a star. I spent easily 5 minutes cleaning the mess that came when I opened the package. However I love this stuff and I’m almost done with my first container, and will buy another when I’m ready for more.
