It’s a MUST
I have a larger yellow belly turtle, so the carbon filter is a MUST! You can definitely see the difference with and without! It’s one of the better carbon filter replacements I’ve used.

Good product, be aware it is sold individually
Just an FYI, each package only contains 1 sponge (filter floss comes in a 6 pack). . . This perfectly fits the trays inside the cascade 1200 and 1500 canister filters. The sponge is quite coarse and will catch the biggest debris particles. However you'll want a tray or two loaded with filter floss to polish the water.As for maintenance of the bio-sponge, there's really no reason to replace this product any sooner than once a year. To clean it: pour the old canister water into a bucket, then take and wring out this "biosponge" in there. Wash it off using the old aquarium water and once it's fairly clean, put the sponge right back into the filter. Don't use city tap water to wash this because the chlorine will kill the beneficial denitrifying bacteria.I say 5 stars out of 5 because it perfectly fits the filter tray, the price isn't outrageous, and it will last a really long time.

Works just like it should.
Not much to it, it's mechanical filter media for a canister filter. It works exactly as advertised. It's cut perfectly to fit in your cascade filter, and it's quite durable. I bought this as backup for the media that came with my filter, but so far, I'm on the original two pads I received, I just rinse them with the hose every week when I clean out the filter. I'd say with care you could probably make one of these last at least six months (I'm going on 3 months with no noticeable wear and tear), if not more. They're so cheap it doesn't hurt to keep a box around as backups, though.

We have two Penn Plax Cascade Filters on our fish tanks this is a much needed and awesome product would purchase this product again and recommend to family and friends

NICE SPONGE
For the price you can't beat this sponge. So much better than having to buy a big one and cutting it to size, its too big of a hastle and you might end up with more bypass than the filter is designed to do.

It's not worth the money
I like this pump and I have it on a 29 gallon tank it does not keep this tank filtered enough they should have charged that amount of money for this filter
