Plays great
Plays right out of the box and it comes with a nice case. Great for a back up saxophone.

This horn looks and plays very professionally without the high cost
This tenor sax is perfect for me. It fits my hands nicely. The mouth piece is of a very high quality for playing jazz. Please use the correct reed for YOU. I say this because everyone is different. You must try different types; wood and plastic. And try sizes from; 1.75 to 3 and don't forget the .5 type and .25 type. I say this because even .25 off of thr correct size is the differenct between free blowing and a stuffy sound.Once I put the correct reed in place (1.75 plastic for me) I could not put my tenor sax down. In fact, I played for hours. I only took short breaks to let my lips recover. So is the a good horn, you may ask?.... I'd say before you pay $2000.00 or more for a horn, try the "Jean Paul." I absolutely love my "Jean Paul!"

Beautiful Instrument but Shame on Whoever Approved My Instrument for Shipping
I have been playing Alto saxophone for about 5 months and decided that I wanted to add a tenor horn. I read all the reviews on the internet and for your money, you could not beat a Jean Paul TS-400GP Tenor horn. To be fair, this was classified as "Used-Like New" so I knew it was a return and would have to hold my breath. I went out to personally meet the UPS driver when he was delivering the horn, opened it, assembled it, admired it and then... with my own Yamaha 4C mouthpiece took my first blow....nothing. I tried again...nothing and again and after 15 minutes was able to net out all of 2 notes period. Yes, the embouchure is different on a tenor versus and alto but THAT different? The next day I decided that just MAYBE it wasn't me and that a good examination was warranted placing the new horn next to my alto and there was the problem: the high E valve key was depressed below the others and barely moved. I contacted Jean Paul service and waited for their 24 hour reply. After not hearing the next day I decided to carefully compare the instruments again and sure enough the rods leading from the palm keys were badly out of place crisscrossed and not in the right position. Very gently I was able to reposition the rods without bending anything and reseat the one in the empty bracket. "Miraculously" the horn started to play and from that point on al of the sour notes were of my own doing. The sax is beautiful, has a nice tone and is as advertised. The lesson is that perhaps you are better off buying directly from the factory and skip Amazon where even though it had already been open (the case is sturdy and very well made and I cannot imagine it being damaged in shipment), there was no thought to find out why it had been returned or to have a knowledgeable person check for damage. This definitely goes for a "Used - like new" instrument. And as for Jean Paul's service, it was a 2 day turn around which was a little disappointing considering that they advertise next business day!
