Comprehension Ninja Workbook for Ages 10-11: Comprehension activities to support the National Curriculum at home

My son has always struggled with comprehension, could never see the answers or fully understand the questions. He rarely engaged with any of the exercises we’ve tried to get him at home, and we always had a battle on our hands. We weren’t hopeful that this book would be any different, and we worried that the texts would be too long for him, but how wrong we’ve been, and actually the texts have had him totally enthralled. He actually asked to do it last night!! The topics have really interested him as well.All of the exercises are so well compiled and for the first time we can actually see what precisely it is that he finds difficult and we’re able to work on that in isolation. He’s even started using a dictionary voluntarily, even when he reads his chapter book in the evenings.But most importantly, he finally seems to have some confidence in himself. It is absolutely astounding the impact that this increased confidence has had, he’s reading more (without being asked), his spelling has improved and he is using more adjectives and adverbs in his writing.A really terrific product, THANK YOU and more please!

My son is just the same as I was in school- reads too quickly missing the key information so even if you understand it the answers end up being slightly wrong. This will help him to get the practice in before the SATs so he can prepare with a strategy and it doesn’t matter if he gets it wrong along the way as it’s a confidence boost. Really well laid out and will entice him instead of make him eye roll when I get him to start it. Thanks Ninja team!

Great book! My son loves it

This has been the perfect time for me to get this book as my 11 year old son, is home learning and had just finished the comprehension book he was working on.My son has really enjoyed working through this Comprehension Ninja workbook. Each of the texts is non-fiction, which he has really liked. He has so far worked on texts about The Battle of Hastings, Barack Obama, Dinosaurs and Climate Change, he has found each one fascinating and has happily completed the work as it is varied and interesting.As a teaching assistant who has worked in Year 6, I know how helpful this book would be to children preparing for SATs:1. Skimming and scanning the text to find specific words. 2. Matching information, this really makes you think about the text.3. Multiple choice questions4, True or false5.Find and copy a word that means...6. Underline a word that means...7. SequencingAll of these activities have really helped my son read the text carefully and have highlighted what he has understood and where he may need a little help. The answers are all in the back of the book, which defintely helps with marking!I will definitely be recommending these books to parents who are looking to support their child's learning at home.
