Yes it fits an iPhone se 2020. I suppose the amount of gap does depend on the case. Fits well with mine.

Does this fit the older version SE?

It does not fit the original SE which is smaller. It fits the SE 2020 (which I have) and the latest SE 2022 which are both the same size. If not on the Amazon site the likes of B&M may have one suitable for the original SE
