Ford blown out spark plug repair made easy
This was used of 2005 Ford F150 with 4.6L engine. It worked perfectly for the blown out spark plug #3. Make sure piston is at bottom dead center. To determine this, I used a big plastic plug that kinda stuck in the spark plug tube and had a tiny bit of a seal. I crawled under truck and turned engine over for what felt like a lifetime, because it is hard to get to the crank bolt with the suspension and shroud...but it is possible. When the engine has both valves closed and the piston is at bottom ready to go up, that plug will pop out loudly. The use of the tap is easy. Fill the end of the grooves of the tap with grease to catch metal shavings. Go in 4.5 turns, take it out and clean tap. go in 4.5 new turns, take out and clean. Wash rinse repeat. Do not do excess turns or more metal will fall into cylinders. When done, use compressed air to blow out. I sprayed a little carb cleaner to get rid of grease. I used the longest thread insert. I gently and lightly coated the new spark plug with antiseize compound, and I used permatex 27200 red threadlocker on the outside of the insert. I very gently screwed this whole thing in the cylinder. I was patient and waited 45 minutes before starting. It has held up a month now. I recommend this over the $100's people say you need to spend on super duper tools. I just do not recommend people buy a old Ford truck with one of these motors! The inconvenience was horrendous, and the research was tough. I only saw a review here on Amazon that explained it like I am. So I am also sharing the process. Takes about hour and a half constantly getting up and down on truck. Maybe 12 times to clear hole, then to reassemble.

Life Saver!
My beloved 2000 VW GTI (4 cylinder, 2.0 liter) blew out a spark plug and I thought I was in big trouble until I found Heilcoil. This kit is amazing! I know how to wrench on a car and installing Heilcoil was a breeze. It took me probably 4 hrs from start to finish. The #2 plug blew out on my VW, which is buried behind the injector rail and the exhaust manifold. Make sure you watch a couple of YouTubes before you do it but all I needed was a medium extension and a universal joint to get the right angle. Make sure you coat the cutter head with grease or a thicker oil to catch the cuttings. Then when the new threads are cut, clean the extra cuttings out of the inside of the head (of which there will be a few) by taking tape and wrapping it sticky side out around a wooden dowel. Nothing fancy, you just want to be able to grab the metal shavings inside the exhaust chamber. I used Loctite Red Heavy Duty on the outside of the tallest sleeve that comes in the kit and hand treaded it in. Then to seat the sleeve, I screwed the new sparkplug into the sleeve and torqued both plug and sleeve in the head. The key is to get the sleeve completely flush with the head. That will ensure a seamless fix. I gave it a couple of hours to dry and my VW is good as new. This kit probably saved me close to $1,200! Totally recommended.

1997 Expedition 5.4L Triton Cylinder 3 blow out.
1997 Expedition 5.4 Triton. (Eddie Bauer 4x4) This is the 14mm x 1.25, but if you're here for the Expedition you know that. Worked perfectly. Had a cylinder 3 blow out close to home. Ordered this two day shipping along with all new plugs, coil packs. Full disclosure: I removed the air intake, pvc hoses, a bracket, unplugged a few wires to move out of the way, and fuel rail. (Cleaned and put new o-rings on injectors. Got these for $5 at auto parts store because I was already tackling this repair.) It's easier than it sounds and it's literally like 7 small bolts/screws. Lots of YouTube videos on this, watched a bunch to gather some tips. I found using grease while re-threading was very useful. I cut the old rubber boot off my broken/blown out coil and wrapped it around my socket extension so it for perfectly in the hole. It kept it nice and straight. I screwed in and removed it 3 times while boring so I could blow/wipe off shavings and regrease. I used a combo of compressed air and a shop vac to clean out shavings. I attached a smaller old hose from a pond pump to the end of the vac hose with some duct tape so it fit in the plug hole. I didn't want to use a spark plug to screw in Hexicoil insert, so I used some of that smaller hose with a bit of electric tape wrapped around it so the insert was nice and tight. I put some thread lock around the insert, screwed it in to where it was flush (no camera here, I looked in there with a flashlight.) and popped out my hose. Then I gave it 2 solid taps also using the socket extender, screwed in my plug which went on easy and torqued. No one says you need to do this but I waited 24 hours before starting it. I had plenty of time to change all the other plugs, coil packs while waiting. I cleared the codes with my reader, and it started perfectly. It's been 3 weeks and she purrs like a kitten.

Save money on lawnmower repair!
Very easy to use to re-tap spark plug hole in Briggs & Stratton 190 cc lawn mower engine. While mowing, my spark plug blew completely out of the engine. Upon further inspection, the threads in the sparkplug hole had become worn, no lo0nger making a good seal. This tool fixed it. The tap has two sets of threads, a narrow one at the end, and a larger diameter one a little bit farther in. Insert the small end into the spark plug hole and use a ratchet to improve the threads somewhat. Keep going and use the larger diameter tap to ream out and thread the spark plug hole to a larger size. The kit comes with three inserts: short, medium, and long. Select the correct length of insert for your spark plug. (Mine used the short). There are bumps or tabs at one end of the insert. Screw the spark plug into the insert, so that the bumps will be at the outside end, not the inside end. Put a dab (no more) of Loc-Tite "red" thread sealer to coast the outside threads of the insert . (The red one withstands high temperatures and pressures, that will hold the insert in place when the lawnmower is in use.) Use the spark plug to screw the insert into the larger spark plug hole made by reaming and threading. Remove the spark plug. Use the swaging tool (long cylinder) to knock the insert just a tad farther in so that the bumps grab. Let your mower sit idle for 24 hours so that the Loc-Tite has time to set. Screw in the spark plug, just like normal. You are good to mow!

Great Save-A-Thread Kit for Toro Lawn Mower
Received Helicoil Kit via 2 Day Prime Trial membership! I needed to repair stripped spark plug threads for a 22 inch Toro Recycler (Self Propelled) Lawn Mower (Model 20065, with a Briggs and Stratton 6.5 HP (Quantum Series Engine)purchased back in 2008). This kit fits the Toro perfectly (at least for my model)- I used the shortest insert (kit includes 3 inserts, Short, Normal and Long inserts). Recommend you search on YOUTUBE to watch a good video on this Helicoil application - the video was for an older model of Toro than my lawn mower, however, it covers all the steps (Search: Helicoil 5334 - it is a two part video that has some very good installation tips. Toro must have some Spark Plug thread issues since there appears to be a lot of documented repair work on this!! Toro, are you reading this! Some other items you may need to purchase for the repair work: 1. PERMATEX Ultra Grey Rigid High Torque RTV Silicone Gasket Maker, or something similar (this is needed to set the new thread kit - if I had watched the YOUTUBE video prior to my Helicoil purchase, I would have ordered the RTV with the Helicoil kit from Amazon - much better prices at Amazon. 2. A can of Liquid Wrench - which I already had in my garage. 3. Bench vise (strongly recommended, however, you can work around not having one. As the YOUTUBE Video shows, you should remove the Cylinder Head to perform this fix - just 8 bolts and some minor obstructions. You will have a lot of metal shavings drop into the cylinder if you do not remove the Head, which will probably create a lot bigger problems for you. All-in-all this was a fairly easy fix, it took me longer to remove the Cylinder Head, than to do the actual Helicoil install. Heads Up: While doing this repair work, one of my cylinder head bolts snapped in two while re-installing (bolt appears to be of cheap quality - nothing is made to last these days!!! - I also noted that I needed a new Cylinder Head Gasket - old Gasket was completely worn out. I now have cylinder bolts and a new gasket on order from Toro - meanwhile I am still able to run my mower with the worn out gasket and only 7 of 8 bolts! I would strongly recommend this Helicoil Repair-a-Thread Kit if you need to fix stripped out spark plug threads for a Toro Lawn Mower - you will not be sorry.
