Schaum's Outline of Physics for Engineering and Science, Fourth Edition

Great Books
Have loved these since college, wished they had color and more vivid diagrams.

Somewhat useful reference
This is a good reference book for entry-level physics and engineering but it lacks good references for 300 level classes.

Errors Still Not Corrected
I am reviewing the Fourth Edition with copyright date 2020. All page numbers listed below refer to the Fourth Edition.Prior Amazon reviews of the Second (2010) and Third (2013) editions, as well as Amazon reviews of the Fourth Edition have mentioned numerous errors. The errors have NOT been corrected. This is somewhat expected, as Professor Browne passed away on February 23, 2014.Someone mentioned errors in the trigonometric identities on Page 6. I could not find any trigonometric errors on Page 6.Errors that have NOT been corrected in the Fourth Edition include:Page 57 Problem 5.8 The listed solution for (b) is 2300 N, but 56,000 kg * 0.05 m/sec^2 = 2800 NPage 72 "One revolution is 2 radians" is incorrect. One revolution is 2 * Pi * radiansPage 72 Problem 6.1 the listed solution is 14 N. The given frequency is 10 rev/sec (not 0.1 rev/sec). Plugging this into the formula yields 355 N.Page 223 Subnuclear particles called quarks have charges that are multiples of e/3, but individual quarts (Should be quarks) have not been detected.Page 223 The permittivity of free space is listed as 8.85 * 10^-11 C^2/N * m^2. The correct value is8.85 * 10^-12 C^2/N * m^2. Meaning the exponent should be -12 instead of -11.Page 224 Problem 20.2 The listed solution is 2.4 meters, but it is not logical that "test" negative charge q3 should be closer to the +9 micro Coulomb charge than the +4 micro Coulomb charge. The correct answer requires solving the quadratic equation (using q1 = +4 micro Coulomb and q2 = +9 micro Coulomb) 9 * X^2 = 4 *(4 - x)^2. The correct answer is 1.6 meters.Page 416 Physical Constants Please replace the unit O^2 with C^2 (Coulomb squared) in the Permittivity of Free Space and Coulomb's Law Constant. Please replace the unit O with C (Coulomb) in the Elementary Charge (electron) Constant.I am sure there are (some, many) other errors yet to be uncovered in this book.Nonetheless, this book provides a good calculus based review of Physics. Many of the explanations are good, and many of the problems are interesting. This book has great potential, if only the annoying errors could be removed. It becomes a matter of being able to trust that the information given and the example solutions are correct.McGraw Hill should recruit a Professor of Physics to review and correct this book. It is NOT acceptable to put a new cover and a new copyright date on an old book and sell it as a new edition.

Disappointed with the errors
Schaum's is such a trusted name, that I didn't check the reviews before buying - this book is indeed full of errors. And I found one within minutes of flipping through the book which the other reviewers hadn't listed (though with the caveat: yes, there are many more errors). It is dangerous to study from this book. The error I found is so basic!Section 4.2 "Constant Acceleration" Equation 4.5 in vector form is printed as r = r + v0*t + a*t^2It should be r = r + v0*t + (1/2)*a*t^2

Riddled with errors
I wanted to review E&M before taking an EE course since it's been a while. Did the first 6 questions from chapter 20 (electric fields). Five of them had glaring errors. This one goes in the recycling.

Great book with plenty of exercise
The product came quickly, but not in perfect condition. the papers in the book are not the best papers quality. overall good deal. highly recommend.

Have errors been corrected?
Before purchasing, I would like to know whether the many errors in the previous editions of this book are corrected in this fourth edition.

Niveau lycée (terminale ) pour un cours accéléré, TROP nombreuses erreurs typographiques .
On ne peut l'utiliser que pour réviser à cause des très nombreuses erreurs typographiques ou autres .Il y a quelques exercices intéressants.
