how can i tell if it is on or off since there is just a push button?

I ordered two sets. The first set charged perfectly after I pushed the button once to turn them on. The 2nd set...well, I had some issues with it because I forgot if I had turned them on so I pushed the button multiple times. It took several days to figure out that they weren’t on. I wish there was a switch instead of the button.

Can I turn these off if I dont need a light?

Of course there is a switch. The solar panel is charged automatically. You can find the light switch on the back of the solar panel.
