Review: DK Digital Photography Complete Course - hardback book - excellent - Having the time now to be able to return to photography, which is a long-lost but not forgotten hobby, I recently bought a particularly nice (read expensive) DSLR from desertcart and set about re-learning things that I really had forgotten. Instruction manuals and books are good and definitely help (I bought one at the same time as the camera so I could learn all the different updated controls) but nothing beats an actual step-by-step course. I've always been impressed by the DK publishing brand and own several of their books so I had no worries about the quality of this volume. I wasn't disappointed. Hardback but with plenty of room left in the binding for the front cover to open and for the pages to lie flat on a table - this is important for any kind of course or instruction manual since the last thing you want to do is keep struggling to keep a book open whilst you apply what you've just learned, or else damage the spine (something I really hate). I do glance at the look inside feature on this page and the book certainly did seem to have what I was looking for, all being laid out in straightforward sections along with suggestions for projects the budding photographer could undertake each week. The course itself is designed to last around 20 weeks - naturally that will depend on how well you are able to manage the different projects and whether you have sufficient time to complete them all in one week. That being said, even reading through the first projects gives as much knowledge, together with excellent examples, as if you've actually gone outside and made photographs yourself. The book is easy to read and follow, although it will go into greater detail as the chapters progress since the whole point of it is to teach the reader as much as possible and encourage them to make their own photographs rather than just use the Auto setting all the time. The pages are stuffed with high-quality colour photographs, the covers are stiff board, the interior pages are glossy. A perfect example of how to produce a book. Although I've only read the lengthy introduction and the first chapter, I know I've made the correct choice of course to follow. There is nothing overly complicated here, the explanations are short and easy to remember, and there are even many sections to explain how to transfer photographs to a computer, how to edit them using photo apps (the author uses a very expensive software but there are free ones available that will do similar), too many things really for me to list here. Naturally I'm leaving a 5 star review and naturally I'm going to recommend this book. Review: Good solid heavy book with good print with nice content. - I bought a used reduced price version which turned out to be just back hard cover partial bent damage with a minor tear. The rest of the book was untouched .. so basically new .. I just repaired the back hardcover, easy. Really impressed with the detailed content and coverage of topics and insights. You see, the thing is .. one may be dabbling in photography for many many years and yet not be aware of certain of the workings or techniques on how to get really good looking pics. We all know how to turn those dials and buttons but if you want to get a bit more deliberate and creative about your shots, then this book is really worth it for inspiration and information. Loving it and well worth it especially getting it as a cheap used version.

DK Digital Photography Complete Course - hardback book - excellent
Having the time now to be able to return to photography, which is a long-lost but not forgotten hobby, I recently bought a particularly nice (read expensive) DSLR from Amazon and set about re-learning things that I really had forgotten. Instruction manuals and books are good and definitely help (I bought one at the same time as the camera so I could learn all the different updated controls) but nothing beats an actual step-by-step course. Digital Photography Complete Course
This is a very good book, which seems to cover the topic very well. The seller needs to improve the packaging as my book arrived in a plastic bag without any padding.

Excellent Digital Photography course
If you have just got a digital camera as I have this is THE book for you! It starts very basic with Week 1 and gives examples, tricks and tips, explanations of settings to use, practical exercises, eg go out and make some photos, assess what you have made, see how they can be improved, a small test before you move on to the next chapter/week. Each chapter/week has 7 double pages, so I read 1 double page a day and try to put that to use and at the end of the week I am ready to move onto the next chapter. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

DK Digital Photography - Complete Course (20 weeks)
I encountered this book whilst browsing the 'Photography' section of a national bookseller. My eye is immediately drawn to any book with the 'DK' logo on its cover. It is a symbol denoting 'quality & value'. A quick look through this book's 360 pages confirmed I must have it. I have to admit that one of my hobbies is collecting quality books and another is photography. It is a comprehensive book, beautifully illustrated and printed. I do feel that mainstream high street booksellers overcharge for their books and I am always on the lookout for a bargain and this frequently means turning to Amazon and its suppliers. Coincidentally, after receiving this particular book, I purchased two more from the DK library: SPACE and EARTH, each selling for just £5 from high street booksellers. This is 'silly money' for books of this quality. The DK Digital Photography Complete Course book will suite all skill levels and is particularly recommended for the novice whose previous experience may have only involved film (analogue) photography.

Don’t spend money on any course but this one!
Imagine having a one to one tutor giving you infinite coaching in your photography skills with a DSLR, but being able to return to and reference their coaching session whenever suits you. That is what this book is like! Comprehensive is not even a big enough word to describe the completeness of this text. It has everything you need to know, in simple language, even including those parts of digital photography which can feel completely overwhelming. The author uses every day language, no jargon and so all of their advice is incredibly easy to understand. There is an excellent balance of text and corresponding images, so you’ll neither be overwhelmed by a billion words alone or lost in unexplained images. This is a brilliant book. You know I only give five star reviews to true gems, and this is one of them!

Great resource for the beginer
The book is very comprehensive and covers a lot of ground. It covers the technical matters well. The key here is practice. You need to take one concept at a time and practice it using the camera for at least one or two days to internalize the skills. Things like composition, color combination, Black and white etc can be done on the mobile phone. Once you master the technical matters like composition, exposure, lighting, contrast, Lenses, histogram, filters, editing etc. Then I suggest you read "The Art of Photography" and "The Essence of Photography" books to develop your unique photographic vision and philosophy.

This is an awesome beginners book to photography.
I really love this photography book. For a homeschool family- my 12 yr old daughter can use it independently. I love how vibrant the cover of the book is. It is well designed. The pages have been organized in such a way it easy to follow or take your time as you get use to all the functions of your camera. It is easy to read and understand. The picture examples are wonderful to follow along. It is a written to be a 20 week course so definitely it can be stretched, especially if you can travel and spend time in the outdoor to practice on a photo shoot project. We do not have a DSLR camera but a point and shoot. I would highly recommend this book. At the end of each chapter, there is a short review and questions. They highly encourage you practice each function and be familiar with the symbols and the meanings. They teach what functions are best at what type of settings and when to use them. Great book!
