My favorite garden tool.
This is the second one I have purchased. I loved the first one so much it quickly became my favorite garden tool. Then my wife tried it. It became her favorite tool, and I never get to use it. So I bought another one. But now my wife wants to borrow my new one so our granddaughter can use it to help her weed out all the acorns that sprouted this spring and are now mini-trees. I could mention it has never rusted, stays sharp, I do touch it up from time to time, it's strong, doesn't bend like a lot of trowels, those are all nice. I just wish I could get a chance to use one again. Maybe I'll buy a third.

Truly Garden 12" Hori Hori Garden Knife is truly Awesome!!
Review of the Truly Garden Hori-Hori KnifeI was looking for a garden tool that would make my life easier. I had read about these types of knives in the past and finally decided that this type of knife sounded like just what I needed. I did a search on Amazon and read descriptions and reviews. It was narrowed down to one. The Truly Garden Hori-Hori Knife. When I received it, the packaging was very good. It came in a nice, well made cardboard gift box. Inside there was the knife, a leather sheath and a whetstone. I was truly amazed at the quality of the items. The knife was beautiful. It was extremely sharp on both edges with the measurements for digging and planting depths. It was made from heavy gauge stainless steel with a full tang in the wooden handle. There was no way this knife was going to bend or break. The wood on the handle was smooth and felt great in my hand. One of its best features was the metal safety guard to keep your hand from sliding down onto the blade. The sheath quality was unbelievable! Made from a thick, good quality leather with a heavy duty snap, this is going to last a lifetime too, with proper care. A bonus whetstone was also included in the event your knife needs sharpening. With that said, I had to wait to use it until the weather cooperated. Well, I have had several opportunities to get into the flower gardens and I was not disappointed. This knife performed like a champ. It digs, cuts ornery roots, weeds, etc. I am so very pleased with this purchase. It is my absolute favorite garden tool! My tool bucket weighs a lot less after I took out other tools that this knife has replaced! You cannot go wrong with this Truly Garden Hori-Hori Knife. In fact, I purchased another to be used as a gift and foresee purchasing more.

Can't garden without my trusty Hori Hori by my side
How did I ever garden before I got the Hori Hori? This is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have many gardening tools which I use but find myself reaching for this knife time and time again during the gardening day. I have so far distributed 82 bags of mulch and opening these bags was always a big problem, tough plastic. But the Hori slashes through in one slash, making the task simple. This spring I planted 50 strawberry plants which required an 8" deep hole. I did dig these with a hoe but used the Hori Hori when I did the actual planting, in measuring the depth and any adjustments to the hole I needed to make. Love Love Love the measurement guide as it made the task so much easier. The knife is very well made, easy to handle, easy to keep clean with a wipe of a soft cloth and easy to sharpen. The instructions on sharpening are very easy to understand and accomplish and I appreciate the sharpening tool that came with the knife. I keep the sheath very well oiled simply to keep it supple and maintain it.Our yard has several Oak and Pecan trees and two resident squirrels. This means many buried nuts in my flower beds and if I don't keep up with the little sprouted trees, they are truly a problem to eradicate. Enter the Hori Hori. I can dig down and get those little suckers out in a flash. The trees, not the squirrels.Too many applications for use to mention here and new ones pop up every day. I would highly recommend this knife in your gardening arsenal.

My FAVORITE yard and garden tool
Ok, I waited an entire year to write this review, just to be sure... but it's official. This is my FAVORITE tool for yardwork and gardening. I do everything with this knife - digging, pulling weeds, planting, inserting fertilizer spikes, you name it. The materials are high quality, with a nice weighted feel (but not too heavy) in my hands. I even dug up aspen root balls that were emerging in our lawn with this, and it was a CHAMP! I don't use herbicides or insecticides so I hand-weed half an acre of mature landscape and this thing makes it SO MUCH EASIER. Before, I was using the standard forked dandelion puller thing and could never get the tap root. With this, I can get the tap roots a lot more often. The sheath keeps it protected and made it easy to attach to my little gardening belt (yep... if you're embarassed for me, you know how my hubs feels...). It's the best for planting seeds, and one of my favorite uses for it is to insert little fertilizer spikes... it makes quick work of that and I can easily get them into the plants that are in our rock garden areas. Even without the sheath or the sharpener that it comes with, I would love it, and those make it even better! The sharpener is awesome- it has multiple sides so you can sharpen anything (including the little serrated teath on the hori hori). I like this thing so much, I actually just started purchasing them as housewarming gifts!

Good knife, bad sheath
The knife is well made and effective. The sheath stinks, literally and figuratively, as it is made of paper and has mildew you can clearly smell. This was true the last time I acquired the same knife as well.
