BBQ GuruUltraQ Bluetooth/Wi-Fi BBQ Temperature Controller Universal Kit for Grills and Smokers

I decided to finally upgrade my CyberQ WiFi to the new UltraQ and wow was that a good decision. I downloaded the iPhone app and a quick firmware update later I was ready to start smoking a pork shoulder. I got an alert on my Apple Watch that there was a fan malfunction and sure enough in my excitement I forgot to plug in the fan. I connected through Bluetooth at first and then decided to try the WiFi connection to use the share my cook feature and record my cook. No issues at all and it maintained a consistent temperature during the 9 hours of smoking. The picture with all the parts is just what I needed to hook it up to my big green egg but it also comes with additional parts for other smokers. The new magnetic base is another nice upgrade and it allowed me to mount it near my kitchen window so I could see the new light ring as I walked by. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to make their life a little easier while BBQing.

The biggest issue was wi-fi functionality only worked very intermittently, even when just 10' away from my router with clear line of sight. Had a few issues with the app. At times, display temp would vary greatly from that shown on the app -- over 100 degrees difference a few times. Changing pit or food temp from the app didn't work consistently. Bluetooth connectivity mostly worked, but not always. I would change the temp on the app, the controller would respond to the change, but the app would take up to several minutes to show the updated values. The app crashed a few times. Contacted customer support, followed all their recommendations (reinstall app, etc).What I did like... large display that can be read from a distance. Adapter plate fit my Louisiana Grills (Komado-style) perfectly. Fan design and mounting very nice.Especially at this price point, it's expected that the product will perform as described. It didn't, so returned it is. Has great feature aspirations, but software needs a do-over.Wishlist for a future product would be 1) Wi-Fi passwords stored so that you don't have to re-enter with every attempt to wi-fi, 2) direct link to product manual, 3) scanning feature skips over channels without probes. Lastly, at this price point it'd be great to have the 2 extra food probes included.

If you are on the fence about getting this go ahead and pull the trigger! This unit is awesome. Set-up was so easy as long as you follow the directions. The app works very well. I read others had trouble with the app/software. I have an iPhone and maybe there has been a bug update. Anyways, no issues at all for me. I have done six cooks so far and it has worked flawlessly. The unit is easy to read visually looking way out on the patio. You can set it up so when it reaches the desired temp or has an issue it will send an email, a text, an app notification and the unit will also beep. Build quality is very nice! The magnetic stand is a nice touch and the probes are superior to other units I have had. I highly recommend the UltraQ!!!

This is a great idea, but poorly engineered. The communication will flake out mid smoke and you still need to go to the grill. Setting up the wifi will either work perfectly on the first shot, or not at all.The probes need replacement very year or so, but you can find them online relatively cheap.Lastly, the price point is just stupid. This is a $100 device in a $300+ box.

Purchased the UltraQ as an upgrade from my old CyberQ. Love the new additions such as the large, easy to read display which is great when cooking in Chicago during the winter. Also welcome was the ease in which the unit is set up. While the UltraQ does a great job of regulating pit temperature, If you're like me, the ability to watch/maintain/adjust your cook remotely is a huge reason for your purchase. This is where the UltraQ falls short. After downloading the free app, I was disappointed when it would constantly crash, fail to show correct information and fail to stay connected to produce accurate cook charts. It has gotten to the point where I would just use the sharemycook.com website to control the UltraQ because I just can't believe what the app is telling me. In conclusion, the UltraQ will do a great job of controlling your pit temp. The app just needs a ton of work in order to catch up. Once that happens, I'll rate this at 10 stars

Tested out the Guru yesterday with a brisket on the Big green egg. Set up and pairing with my phone was very easy. Installation of the parts to my smoker took only a few minutes at most. I set up the smoker and tested it by going out to dinner. I was away from home for about 2 hours. Smoker temp set to 225F. When I got home it was 227 - pretty much perfect. I really think this will be helpful on longer cooks and I liked that I never had to go outside and tinker with the air flow. The unit uses A/C power so i had to run an extension cord. I would really like if this was battery operated instead. Otherwise, it was great.

It actually controls the pit temperature extremely well. The mobile app To control it is absolutely horrendous. I will most likely be returning it if this app can't be fixed. Unfortunate, because the device itself works very well.

Great product with beefy probes that don’t break. Wish it would use wifi to send me updates when I’m not home for long cooks, but still highly recommended.

The device seems alright but the App is awful. It's incredibly tedious to use and difficult to pair. It doesn't have the features or app quality that comes with something like Fireboard

Works ok. It can only add air to produce more fire. So I when it gets too hot it doesn’t help by stabilizing the fire. So you basically gotta be around all the time to make sure it’s not going over temp. For 600 with taxes you would expect it to do more. My traeger I can goto work and use this is pretty useless. Like I said it’s great for adding air to produce heat but when it gets to hot it just flashes hi on the machine and u manually have to correct it. The app isn’t the best eitherIt’s honestly worth 250Bucks max
