The 2013 MusiCares person of the year concert film honoring Bruce Springsteen is now available. The sold-out event, which was hosted by Jon Stewart, recognized Springsteen's extraordinary creative accomplishments as well as his significant charitable work and featured performances by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band in addition to more than a dozen performances of Springsteen's work by other artists. A portion of the proceeds from a MUSICARES TRIBUTE TO BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN will benefit the MusiCares foundation, which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical, and personal need.

Having no expectations, I was gladly surprised !
I bought this blu-ray having no expectations at all. I am just a long time Bruce fan somewhat disappointed by the way his career has turned. I played this show and I was hooked since the very beginning. I will admit I usually like covers, and in this case, I did like absolutely all of the tracks. Most of them are 4 stars or higher, and for my personal taste, the only two things I did not like that much were Emmylou Harris 'My Hometown,' and Mavis Staples singing in 'My City of Ruins' (the song, though, is top notch with a great Zac Brown and a very powerful gospel choir and excellent instrumentation throughout). I am sure every viewer will have his/her own picks. For me, the better moments of the night were Patti Smith's 'Because the Night' (so full of emotion, and beautifully sung), Mumford & Sons' 'I'm on Fire' (what a surprise, and what a great quartet these guys are!), Tom Morello & Jim James' 'The Ghost of Tom Joad' (I just LOVE Morello!!!!!). I also enjoyed Kenny Chesney's 'One Step Up' (that song is one of my personal favorites, and he did a great job!), and Juanes' 'Hungry Heart' (I was really surprised how he mixed Spanish and English, and the great rhythm he gave to the song hit). I was not very happy with Neil Young's 'Born in the U.S.A.' version, but I guess people think otherwise, considering the reaction (by the way, it is so freaking funny to see Neil Young 'playing' drums at the very end of the show, with the 'Glory Days' cast ensemble version!).Because this was a TV show, you get the talking, the Springsteen reactions to his songs (this is very well captured, priceless for example when Patti Smith was on stage), and Bruce's speech, which I knew thanks to youtube and that you can have here for ever. A very good indeed speech Boss!I give this 4.5 stars without hesitation, and I recommend it to anybody who likes Bruce or rock concerts.

WONDERFUL! TO MY SURPRISE!
There have been good tributes to performers, and some not so good. This one amazed me... loved it. Especially loved the voice of Juanes. I never heard of him, but loved the way he did Hungry Heart! I am late to this DVD so, that's why I never heard of the handsome kid.Loved the angle that John Legend did on Dancing in the Dark. Wonderful version. Many great performances, including my favorite Mumford and Sons. I knew that version and that might be what prompted me to see this DVD.Tim McGraw and Faith Hill did my absolute favorite song Tougher Than the Rest. Although nobody could sing that like Bruce and Patty, it was still done well. Bruce looked good and sang few songs at the end. The entire cast sang Glory Days. The sound is great, as was the entire production. So, to my surprise, this was wonderful !!!

Sounds Amazing
I thought this would be OK. It's incredible. Ben Harper, Tom Morello, Jackson Browne.... It's soooo good. And Patti Smith's performance of her and Bruce's song is heartbreaking. And John Legend just went up a few notches in my book. And seriously, if hearing Alabama Shakes play a Springsteen rocker isn't what you need in your life, you need to rethink it and ask your ears.

Great DVD
I love listening to his video of MusiCares Tribute to Bruce Springsteen! I was not paying much attention to music when Bruce was becoming famous - I was busy raising kids - but now that I'm retired I am really enjoying getting acquainted with his work.

Spine tingling, moving, inspired music.
Amazing on all levels. Artists interpretations of Bruce's music is sometimes better than the original tracks! Not to miss is "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with breathtaking guitar by Tom Morello; Elton Johns "Streets of Philadelphia"; Kenny Chesny ....and so many more. Stunning. Last but not least is Bruce's acceptance speech at the end: very real, very honest; funny; inspiring. This is the second time I got this CD. I gave my original to a musician who was discouraged and he saw it and got back into his drums! I missed my copy because I never got it back. I'm so glad I repurchased it; love the chills I get when I listen to my favorite cuts. And Bruce's speech, too.

Great music, great tribute to the Boss
If you like Bruce Springsteen's music this is a great Blu-ray tribute concert to own. I must admit I had not heard of most of the musicians before who performed at this event but i think they were all great, great vocals and great music. I might say Patti Smith performance alone ("Because the Night") could be worth the admission price; she was freakin awesome. At the end of the show, Bruce comes on stage and sings a few songs which were all excellent. His songbook is amazing. The host, Jon Stewart, was a bit off but that's really negligible. I highly reccommend this to all music fans.

Amazing Performances, Great Disc
The wife and I caught this when it premiered on PBS a couple of weeks before the holidays and were instantly mesmerized by the performances. Being a casual Bruce fan, I was not readily familiar with some of the songs, but wow, what a show!Alabama Shakes, Brittany is amazing. Ben Harper & Natalie Maines, haunting. Jackson Brown and Tom Morello totally destroy American Skin (41 Shots.) I have no idea who Juanes is but the Spanglish Hungry Heart rocks. Elton John, Sting, Patti Smith, Zac Brown, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Emmylou Harris, John Legend, Neil Young AND Bruce & the bandβ¦what more can you say?The BluRay made an excellent stocking stuffer and is our new audio demo disc for the home theater.Video is 1080p AVC; Audio tracks on the disc are 2-Channel 48KHz/16bit Stereo, 5.1 Channel 48KHz/16bit Dolby AC3 at 640kb/s and 5.1 Channel 48KHz/16bit Uncompressed PCM.

As expected
We love putting on concert DVDs outside our motorhome when we travel, and this is an all-time favorite. It was delivered before the expected delivery date, the package wasn't damaged, and the DVD was shrink wrapped and in perfect condition

Great DVD with performances of classic Springsteen songs by Springsteen & other acts
Bruce Springsteen was honoured as the 2013 Musicare's Person Of the Year and this DVD is a film of the awards ceremony. Musicare is a charity which supports music performers in times of financial, medical and personal need. There are 16 performances by other acts all performing Springsteen songs and 5 performances by Bruce and the E Street Band themselves. All of the performances are absolutely terrific. Some performers were well known to me, for example, Mumford and Sons, Elton John, John Legend, Sting, Neil Young but others, primarily American performers, were either unknown to me or certainly less well known. There were performances by Alabama Shakes, Ken Casey, Kenny Chesney. Juanes and others. Obviously they had the advantage of singing great Springsteen songs but they were all undoubtedly great acts. This DVD has certainly introduced me to some terrific performers whom I had never heard of. The sound and film quality are both excellent. If you are a Springsteen fan you will love this. Highly recommended

Fantastic concert except....
Big fan of Bruce and sometimes of the view that some songs are so perfect they shouldn't be touched by anyone else. By law. So I worried about what some of these would be like. With one exception Everybody brings something new to the party, and whilst maybe not better at least different and interesting. Stand out for me is Jim James and Tom Morello covering the Ghost of Tom Joad. Bottom of the pile is Elton John singing the streets of philadelphia. Just awful. That's one of the songs that should just be left alone. Main downside throughout was the compere Jon Stewart, not funny, racist and adds no value to proceedings. It's a real shame I can't get this in cd version for in the car.

The Boss - Brilliant As Usual
A superb tribute as a number of artistes sing Classic Springsteen tracks before the Boss himself closes with five numbers including of course "Born To Run" and "Thunder Road". The only letdown for me was a mundane version of "Streets Of Philadelphia" from Elton John. Even Sting was okay, and Alabama Shakes started the whole thing off perfectly. Mumford and Sons and Jackson Browne provide other highlights, but the standout performance comes from Tom Morello and Jim James with a storming "The Ghost Of Tom Joad". Dare I say it - Bruce himself couldn't have given it more passion!

One of the best Tributes I seen
As a Bruce fan I didn't know if I was going to like seeing other artists sing Bruce's songs. So if I honest I purchased this DVD for the tracks Bruce did at the end of the show. I was very surprised that I sat though and really enjoyed seeing other artists performing bruce's music. Some really great performances especially from Patti Smith, Jackson Brown and Neil Young.

a must for bruce and non bruce fans !
Im not especially enamoured with other people covering bruce songs -why would I want to see any one else singing them??!!BUT this is really good -especially people like Patti Smith ( who is obviously an exception to the aforementioned rule), Jackson Brown and Neil young ,although I can do without Elton John making a Bruce song sound exactly like every other Elton John songthe concert is made even better by Bruce being there in person and accepting the Musicare Tribute Award and then the E street band joining him on stage for a mini concert.
