What a nicely produced book for an amazingly adaptable game under an Open Source license!
This is the alternative to the 'best role playing game in the world' for so we have been led to believe. A versatile game that allows you to role play in any fantasy world you can imagine: your favourite television show, your favourite book or film, it's all possible with the intuitive system that Fate introduces permitting your players to customize their characters with their own language while describing their play and negotiating with you the GM for biggest bang for the drama you create together. Turing means of expression and therefore role play itself and the problem solving and conflict itself into a set of simple intuitive rules that are truly and epicly collaborative.

Really nice resource. I had seen FATE (and similarly SW) hacked and converted all over the place to fit in the niches of each world or setting, and so it was nice to get hold of this book and see all of the core details with good examples and explanations. It is even sized well, being slightly smaller than a normal rpg book. I only knocked off a star because I would have preferred a layout in colour and and maybe glossy paper, but that's just my opinion and not really a downside. I think I will probably just pull it out soon and treat it as a standard fiction novel and read it straight through. FATE is so different from my anything in my background, that the nuances are taking a little time for me to get. But this book has already helped a lot by showing how FATE equates to other systems, like d20 or BRP. It's rather like a book of house rules and how to be a better DM/GM. Great job!

Minimalist, adaptable system
Great minimalist, easy to use & adapt roleplaying system. Where GURPS sets out to be a universal system by supplying a rule for each and every individual situation, FATE supplies a few rules which you can adapt & apply to any situation with a little inventiveness. FATE is way more collaborative than other RPSes too - the GM is encouraged to bounce ideas off the players, and the players are encouraged to communicate when creating characters. The range & scope of the FATE-based games that Evil Hat have already produced gives an idea of just how adaptable it is, from one where everyone is a cat to ones about Jim Butcher's Wizard detective, Harry Dresden. I like the weight & solidity of the book & binding too - it feels like it's decent quality, the sort of thing I'll get a lot of use out of.

A good rules light + generic system if that's what you want.
The amount of reading involved in this book feels a little heavy considering it's a relatively light ruleset. However that' being said, it's not so overly heavy that I wouldn't recommend it on that basis. The rules system is nice if you're looking for a light generic system, and the in depth character and world creation is very solid.

Five Stars
Great book, the pdf is basically free, but having the actual paper while playing is just great.

Fate Core is my favourite system out there
Fate Core is my favourite system out there. This book is a beauty and it will let you play any group of competent and dramatic characters in any setting you want.
