Moving book in exquisite French
Marcel Pagnol (1895-1974) was a French playwright, film director, novel writer. In 1952 he made the film “Manon des Sources” (a film I have not seen yet but want to; if anybody (in France?) knows how to get a copy of it, please post a reply to this review; I would like to buy it). But, of course, I have seen the 1985 Claude Berri films (many times) “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des Sources”, exquisite films. For “Manon des Sources” Marcel Pagnol reversed the usual book-to-film connection. He made the film first in 1952 and, in 1963, wrote “L’eau des collines” in two parts “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des Sources”. I read his “Jean de Florette” a few years ago and his “Manon des Sources” just a few days ago.“Manon des Sources”, the book, is even more moving than the book “Jean de Florette”. Of course, reading the book after having seen the 1985 Claude Berri films, it is impossible not to identify Manon des Sources with Emmanuelle Béart, but that is good.I read the book in French. I write this review in English because I am incrementally more comfortable writing in English. I advise you read the book in French, if you can, in English if you don’t.As a postscript I should add that I was very pleased with the (second=hand) delivery of this book. I would order from the same source again.

Item exactly as described, prompt delivery.
The pages of my 12-year-old copy of this delightful book were beginning to fall out. As I eagerly return to it each year, I needed to find a replacement. Luckily for me, the seller had in stock an identical copy, and I can now look forward to another12 years of this enchanting story.

Riveting book
Not a typical literature nut, since I've been in IT since university. I bought this book for a french class I was taking and so was not truly naturally attracted to the book. But I have to say that this book really is riveting. C'est vraiment très intéresant. J'ai hâte de le finir!Seller sent book quite quickly too!

Manon des Source
This is the follow up to Jean de Florette. The book is extremely well written. Hard to put down. You must, however, read Jean de Florette first. Excellent.

Grand final
