Great Barrier Reef, The (DVD)
O**!
The Great Barrier Reef is informative
The Great Barrier Reef is informative, the reef is dying, but not as fun as the BBC Natural History Collection series: The Life of Birds, The Blue Planet, The Life of Mammals, Planet Earth I and II. The History Channel's Universe series and the two Cosmos series are also good.If the above don’t sound interesting you might like a couple of space race shows. I spent a month on a space race binge. First I read Space by James A. Michener. Then I watched two movies, The Right Stuff (1983) and Apollo 13 (1995), and then two great series, From Earth to the Moon (1998) and The Astronauts Wives Club (2015). They’re a great combination. If the above shows don’t sound interesting here are a few of the series I really enjoyed watching more than once. I love good miniseries like Band of Brothers (2001), Frank Herbert’s Dune (2000), Into the West (2005), Lonesome Dove (1989), Pride and Prejudice (1995), Taken (2002) and The 10th Kingdom (2000) because they have beginnings, middles and endings, like a good novel.Other shows I’ve really enjoyed include Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), Breaking Bad (2008-2013), Cowboy Bebop (1998), Downton Abbey (2010-2015), Firefly (2002), Game of Thrones (2011-2019), The IT Crowd (2006-2013), Jericho (2006-2008), Lost (2004-2010), Merlin (2008-2012), Rome (2005-2007), Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011), Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010), Stargate: SG-1 (1997-2007), Stargate: Atlantis (2004-2009), Star Trek The Original Series (1966-1969) and Star Trek Voyager (1995-2001). I didn’t list any contemporary series I’m following that don’t have an end date yet, not conducive to binge watching from beginning to finish, or the hundreds of other fantasy and science fiction shows I’ve watched. If you like reading try some of my favorite fantasy and sci-fi authors: Richard Adams, Palo Bacigulupi, Suzanne Collins, Abe Evergreen, Diana Gabaldon, Hugh Howey, George Martin, Brandon Sanderson, John Scalzi, and Andy Weir.

Nice, but the original was nicer
The original of this was on VHS, and so I opted to get the DVD. Well, it was a reissue or whatever, and there was way too much dialogue and human action in this video. Not nearly as good as the original which is what I thought I was getting.

Great Bargain, Really!
Although other DVDs cover this fantastic natural wonder, there was plenty of new information in this one, including numerous new and amazing species of wildlife which are part of God's awesome creation which I had not seen in other DVDs. Also, the material was presented in a slightly different and effective way by Monte Halls. This is simply three hours of top-notch enjoyment!

Pretty good
I was expecting more footage of pretty fish and lots of coral and animals. There is a bunch, but just not very many close-up shots. There are a whole lot of high-speed, fast motion scenes, especially in the beginning, which seem gimmicky and take away from the beauty of the corals. There are a few zoomed in scenes of the narrator's face while he's talking which aren't very interesting, and quite off-putting. Did like it more, after the first half hour or so. It gets interesting further into the film.

Excellent 3 part series on the Great Barrier Reef
I am a sucker for well crafted nature videos. My five year old, who is uninterested in the Blue Planet (Philistine!) ADORES this series. I think it may be because Monty Halls appears in the video personally and may be more accessible than a narrator (not that it is aimed at children). The sea turtle sequences were particularly interesting. I highly recommend this series. I wish more Monty Halls videos were available in Region 1.

Great video on Sea Creatures!
Great documentary! Covers alot about the sea creatures who live there. I never like to see fish eating other fish or creatures but almost every video has that in it. Amazing colorful corals.

Excellent photography. This film would be a solid five ...
Excellent photography. This film would be a solid five star production if it wasn't for the politically correct overtones dancing about climate change. The authors would do well to seek more scientific data, or conversely touch on the real scientific dialog and allow intelligent viewers to form their own opinions. Typical BBC approach to a not so subtle political agenda.Lastly, a bit less anthropomorphic assignment would give this presentation a more professional aura.

Captivating, enthralling and enriching
This wonderful DVD captures the majesty and kaleidoscopic colours of the Great Barrier Reef . The photography is spectacular and the viewer is treated to everything from extreme close-ups to wonderful aerial shots of this natural phenomenon .We get to see how coral forms, lives, reproduces and dies . Monty Halls, the presenter of this, is enthralled and conveys that to the armchair viewer. The sheer scale of the reef almost beggars belief .At the end of the 3 hour spectacular the viewer will be left enriched .A must see DVD for anyone interested in the natural World. Buy it and be captivated .

very informative and visually stunning
My wife and I enjoyed watching this 3-episode Blu-ray. It's remarkably well filmed and visually stunning. The footage of sharks eating turtles was really interesting - they appear to have mounted a camera on the unfortunate turtle (which as already dead, it seems). My only criticism would be that it lacks a developing narrative to tie the episodes together and to differentiate them from each other. The episodes become "more of the same" after a while. Still, I am glad I bought it and I recommend it to others. I don't know if it's available in 3D but that would be really something.

One Disc for this three-part series featuring nature in all its colour and splender on Australia's Great Barriet Reefs together
Ordered 19.9.14 and received by 22.9.14. One Disc for this three-part series featuring nature in all its colour and splender on Australia's Great Barriet Reefs together with other locations which contribute to the Reefs well being. Spoilt only by the host of the series fequently believeing he can talk through a mask under water expecting the viewer to be able to understand what the hell he is talking about and quoteing facts at that, which he could so easily have said out of the water.

The natural wonder of The Marvelous Barrier Reef
Discover the wonders of The Great Barrier Reef with this superb DVD.Remarkable underwater photography and some beautiful scenery coupled with some unique and rare inhabitants provides you with breathtaking moments.I thought I knew something about The Great Barrier Reef until I saw this film and realised the variety of natural life and habitat far exceeded any knowledge I had of this wonder of the world. I rate this film very highly indeed.

Great !!
Love this series of films on a very special part of the world. Looks superb on Blue Ray. Monty Halls makes for an informed and level headed presenter who doesn't feel the need (thank goodness) to wildly exaggerate his enthusiasm for the cameras. He lets the magnificence of the GBR speak for itself. Brilliantly filmed and full of knowledge and information.
