Feminist writer in the late 1920s.
Great read set in Oklahoma during the late 1890s and early1900s. The novel is accomplished from an examination of the thoughts and behaviors of a young woman from Kansas. She lived with he family who were from the Deep South and assimilated their values. Her flamboyant husband takes her and her child to a new life in the early settling of Oklahoma.Ms Ferber is a Pulitzer Prize Winner and wrote the novel Giant. The Giant perspective is also from the feminine view point. The character is from a cultured Virginia home who moves to Texas with her husband the owner of a large cattle ranch. Similar novels but different time and location. Both are exceptional.

A good read but...
'Cimarron' was typical Edna Ferber fare. I consider 'Giant' better, but I am biased since I am a Native Texan. However, it was an entertaining enough read. My main issue was that the characters were extremely unlikable. You started off very sympathetic to Sabra and Yancey, but by the end of the book, they both turned into terrible people. And through the lense of reading in 2021, Sabra in particular was terribly racist and did horrendous things to her fellow citizens, including taking a baby from her mother. In this addition, reading the forward by Ferber's great niece Julie Gilbert gave some perspective on the original intention of the book and how it had been warped over time and by the movies made from the book.

Elegantly written and a bit flowery
I know this is a well renowned novel. It was beautifully written and has a great story to tell. However, I just could not finish it! It was a bit too Hollywood in its portrail of the old west. Maybe the writing was a bit too old fashioned for me? Whatever. I am sure many readers would love it but for me who has read westerns most if my life it was not to my liking. Maybe I will pick it up again in the future.

Great depiction of the Oklahoma land rush1
The book was a description of the times that were rough, rowdy, and interesting. The strong woman was a leading character, unlike the movie.

Good, not great!
Probably just wasn’t my cup of tea. It was really hard for,me to get into this book for about the first one third. Then it was really good. But the last third felt like someone else finished the book. Good story, strange writing.

This is a classic. I guess I have no class. I felt hopeless reading this book, and didn't finish.
I did not enjoy this book. She was ahead of her time, but not ahead of 2018. I found the prejudice, and the patriarchy unbearable. I didn't like either of the protagonists, nor pretty much anyone else. (Except for one character, and he was pitiful.) Most of the time I felt hopeless. If you want to know what the "good ole days" were really like, you might enjoy this book. Since I'm neither a history major, nor an English major, I couldn't even finish the book.

An old book, but I'm just getting around to reading it.
I'm nearly finished reading Cimarron and have enjoyed it very much.
