The seat area of this bench is 16x16 - the amount of usable seat inside the tube you get to park your behind on. Remember that the some of the bench hangs over the edge of the tub for the transfer and you need to be able to tuck the shower curtain in. Think about the size of your wheelchair seat - the average adult wheelchair is 18 inches wide. The suction cups on the inside of the tub that are supposed to anchor it to the bottom keep the bench 4 inches away from the inside tub wall because of the tapered angle of the legs.So you are pretty far from the inside of the tub surround and any grab bar you have mounted there. The padding my look nice and cushy but sometimes when sliding out of the shower it will shift and allow the corner of the base give you a good poke.I have this bench because this is what my insurance paid for and I really hate it. It is way too short in length and it tries to throw me toward the end of the tub with the spout in it before I can get my legs inside and pivot. I am unable to use it safely by myself. We have adjusted and adjusted and adjusted the legs trying to get it to stop trying to dump me the way it does.The only way I can see this bench as a useful and safe one is for only very small people.
