The art of Arabian costume: A Saudi Arabian profile

A bit overdone in the way of the pictures and descriptions of clothing from that area. The pictures are most about clothes hardly ever been seen wearing by the people. Seems more like overblown evening dresses instead of costumes that are often worn in Saudi Arabia..

The work is knowledgeable and competent. The focus is on female dress, with just a bit about male costumes, and some sections on accessories. There are beautiful paintings, and also atmospheric colour photos posed in Arabic scenery. What spoiled the enjoyment slightly is that the models are all so western looking, probably the author's personal friends? I guess this may have something to do with the Islamic restriction on photography, and I accept it. But if I hadn't previously read other competent books by this author, the pictures of western women indulging in a fancy dress fantasy in the Arabian sands would have made me suspect the quality of research.

perfect condition and exactly what I wanted. Very happy with this book, it is filled with much information and beautiful illustrations of costumes of the tribes.

I just wanted to correct what another reviewer led me to believe. This is not a belly dance costume book. I have not read it all the way through but I have not seen a single dance costume yet. It is very interesting, but I would call it just what the title says - The Art of Arabian Costume.

Good information and photos. Has diagrams of garments' basic construction as well as fabrics and uses. Gives types used and differences for the various regions.
