Thief and the Cobbler
This movie came out when my son was 1. It was his favorite movie on the 90s- nostalgic! Hiscopy had gotten lost over the years. Was very happy to find a replacement for him. Movie quality is great.

Watch it with the kids
Growing up this was the movie my brother and I ALWAYS rented at blockbuster (never found it for sale). This movie is one of Vincent Price last performance (as ZigZag). The entire movie is full of optical illusions- an Escher inspired work. My favorite character is the Thief, who’s silent but thoughts are all hilarious one liners, breaking the fourth wall on occasion. The princess wants to be known for her intellect and bravery over her beauty, falling for the charming and shy cobbler. It’s a cute romance set in Arabia, rivaling Aladdin in many ways. U like Disney, this movie took years to complete, hand drawn, which at its release failed to be as popular as Aladdin came out right before this did (tho I’m a huge fan of robin williams, too). If you get an opportunity, i recommend watching it.

It was the greatest film.
I remember renting and watching the film 1 time since I was, I think, growing up.Anyway, I was surprised that the evil character was voiced by Vincent Price (1911-1993).

A Great Children's Film Set In Old Bagdad: Wonderful Animated Geometry and a Brave Little Hero
This is one of my favorite film's from my son's childhood, rescued from obscurity and completed decades after it was first animated. An Arabian Nights-style story with a brave young cobbler named Tack who saves a sweet and beautiful young princess from an evil vizier and a monstrous horde sweeping down on their lovely and ancient city. Beautiful sequences with MC Escher-like geometry and a Rube Goldberg-style finale where good triumphs over evil. A sweet Middle Eastern tale in the spirit of the Brave Little Tailor. Two thumbs way up, highly recommended. (Purchased extra copies for my very young cousins so they can enjoy it).

I wish the Criterion Collection would come out with this on 4K.
It has some sublime examples of Richard Williams animation, most well know for Who Framed Roger Rabbit?! Greater kaleidoscopic moments than any other hand painted 2-D cell animation feature that I can think of. Way cooler at times than Yellow Submarine ever gets (IMO). Unfortunately, Sean Connery is not in this or any version I am aware of and some scenes are not as good as others ie some of the musical singing. A higher quality would be better. This version is below the standard of most DVDs from big movie companies like Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Disney etc but a lot of Mill Creek disks are from obscure sources. For an animation aficianato this film is REALLY REALLY REALLY DESIREABLE.

A shame
An absolutely appalling butchery of a long in development movie from a master animator. Richard Williams must have been devastated what they did to his cherished project! The added songs, the voiceover for the the Thief. I still purchased it, as there are still wonderful moments to treasure. The animation, as you would expect, is stunning in places, particular the cobbler in a chase sequence, and the really complex climax. You can see the love and attention Williams put into it. All destroyed because the moronic money men tried to "salvage" a movie they felt wasn't viewer friendly enough! its a real shame!
