The premise of the original game seems a little lame: plant as many bean fields and earn coins for harvesting them. But the game is very competitive and the strategy behind it is quite ingenious. As my boys were getting older, I wanted to introduce the game to them. They are 7 and 5, so I didn't know if they'd understand how to play the original. Well, lo and behold, there is a kid's version! Easier to play, though it will take younger players time to learn the nuances of the game. It can still be played by older players without feeling childish. Review: Truly a great game. - This truly is a great game. The rules start of simplified to teach children the basics of the game. Then essentially there are rules you can add back one at a time in order for the rules to mimic the regular Bohnanza game. This was a brilliant way to do it IMHO. The cards look to be compatible with the expansions as well. I playwith 3.5, 6, and 7.5 yr olds. 3.5 needs help but loves learning and getting coins.
