A Book of Sleep
M**Y
the most potent sleep book with proven effect on various ages...
For the last couple of years, I have bought almost all the sleep books on the market to help my little kids go to bed smoothly. Our list includes The Going-To-Bed Book, Goodnight Moon, Time for Bed, Max and Millie (Toddler Books), Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site We love all of them and they all deserve the high reputation. This book is the latest addition to the collection. I bought this particularly for my 18 months old daughter who loves any book with a moon in it. We even have a Uncle Milton Moon In My Room which we keep on until she falls a sleep. While reading the book the first thing that drew my attention was the information provided. I, as a 31 year old person, had never thought that I would learn something from a board book written for toddlers. It tells the sleeping habits of different animals (fish, whales, penguins, birds, elephants, bears, giraffes and horses). Personally, I did not know that some birds sleep with one of their eyes open or that elephants are such noisy sleepers. If I can learn that much I am sure the kids would get a lot from this tiny book. The illustrations are pretty and colors are attractive, moreover the animals can be distinguished easily by kids (I don't like children books with postmodern figures that my kids struggle to identify.)The thing that surprised me most about this book is its ability to put someone in sleep mode. My daughter made me read it over and over for three times in a relatively dark room (we have uncle milton's moon as the only light source) and I don't remember yawning that frequently ( at least 5-6 times in 10 minutes) while reading to her and before I made it to the end of the third round she was already asleep which had never happened before. Therefore among the very good sleep books we have, I can clearly put this one as the top of the list in terms of helping a little one to sleep. It is probably because of it mentions nothing but sleeping animals on every single page and that does affect somewhere deep in the brain. I wish I had bought it long before.

Beautiful illustrations and simple story
The illustrations in this book are absolutely gorgeous, which is a big reason I got it. It might be fair to say that I enjoy it even more than my 1-year-old, who has gone through phases with this book - going through periods where we read it every night, and then long stretches where we don't - but he enjoys looking at the animals. Overall, it's been a good addition to our book collection. I am going to check out other books by this author because the illustrations are so exceptionally beautiful, especially for a children's book.

Keep next to bed for helping toddlers fall asleep at night. Warm illustrations and story.
Warm and beautiful book for little ones. This book is a rare find with warm and wonderful illustrations that aid greatly the few repetitive words written. It is engaging and makes you want to go to the end of the book without skipping a lovely page. This is a wonderful book to read to your kids at bed time. The story centers around many different animals sleeping at night while the watchful wide-eyed owl keeps awake at night. This book shows kids that different animals sleep in different ways - some sleep standing up and some sleep while swimming. The drawings are warm and aid in helping kids themselves fall asleep as they can enter an imaginary world in their minds where all creatures are starting to sleep...except, of course the watchful owl, who will take his turn when the sun comes up.

Beautiful Illustrations and Gentle Wording
This is a great little board book to add to your night time collection. The illustrations are gorgeous and eye-catching, perfect for infants and young toddlers. The wording is simple, gentle, and not too exciting (won't get your little one all geared up again just before bed) but is still interesting enough to hold a little one's attention. My toddler loves looking for the owl and pointing him out on each page. Not recommended for kids over age 2.5 though. After that it's much too simple and could get boring. It's a very short book and doesn't have much of a story, which is what kids around 3 and up are looking for it seems.

Great book for bedtime
I originally purchased the board book of "A Book of Sleep" for my then-16 month old son. We incorporated it into our bedtime routine and he loves it! He now points all of the animals on each page and loves to find the owl.I then purchased the hardcover version for a friend's baby shower. It was one of the few books she received that she had never heard of, and while flipping through it, she commented on how nice the pictures were. I have to agree, the illustrations are beautiful. Though this is a newer book for children, it feels like one of the classics like Brown Bear and Goodnight Moon.As you go through each page, you learn about animals and the different ways they sleep. Some are quiet, some are noisy. Some sleep alone and some sleep huddled together with other animals. It's a nice way to teach my son about the differences between animals and how sometimes the sun is up when some of them are sleeping.

Sweet bedtime story for a young child
I bought this book for my 18-month old daughter. We began reading it at bedtime, and she absolutely loved it! The pictures are very beautiful, and the story is simple and short, so it can hold her attention. She loves pointing to the owl on every page - she even found him on a page where he is small and very well hidden! After we had read it a few times, she started saying the word "owl" and would go and choose it off the shelf every night before bed. It is a very sweet little story that is perfect for bedtime.

Ogni pagina un’opera d’arte
Il libro ha una qualità grafica delle illustrazioni e dettagli che rendono ogni pagina una piccola opera d’arte. La storia da sfogliare é molto bella. Materiale con pagine rigide e lucide.

I've been reading this book aloud pretty much every day for more than four months
I've been reading this book aloud pretty much every day for more than four months, so feel rather qualified to review it by now! The text is really minimal but effective in a rhythmic, repetitive way, and it marries beautifully with the gorgeously layered mixed-media illustrations. Every time I read the book I find a new detail in an illustration. Most importantly, my almost ten-month-old daughter absolutely loves it! As in, she beams when it's taken off the shelf, giggles when I read the title and author's name, and can't concentrate on a feed if it's sitting on a table beside her. I used to be dubious when I read about babies loving certain books, but all I can say is I am no longer a cynic in that regard.

It's beautiful and a lovely little book to read at bed ...
Got this board book as a stocking stuffer for my toddler. It's beautiful and a lovely little book to read at bed time. I have checked out the full size version at the library and can say this board book is exactly the same except in size and on thicker board pages. The images have not been cropped like in some board books. I am very pleased with this purchase and will keep this book for a very longtime.

Magnifique
