Paul Hogarth: Graham Greene Country.
An interesting travelogue volume taking as it's theme locations featured in the novels of Graham Greene and featuring the excellent illustrations of Paul Hogarth.Hogarth is a wonderfully loose illustrator with a fine technique combining line and watercolour washes; for all that, he's very disciplined in his depiction of architectural subjects, and his approach is incredibly evocative of place even though his style is the thing that initially catches one's eye.A landscape-format hardback, this is a satisfyingly well-illustrated book with lots of large-scale examples of Hogarth`s work and the commentary texts are supplied by Greene himself.A very fine volume I`ve been fortunate to own for a number of years – do get a copy if it can be found for a reasonable sum.

A wonderfully illustrated addition for all admirers of this master novelist
A great book, bigger in size than I thought it would be, but all the better for it. Wonderful texts by Paul Hogarth explaining the background for each of his illustrations, and plenty of extracts from Graham Greene's books to enhance the artworks. An indepensible book for admirers of Graham Greene, and a superb addition to his collection of novels. I discovered so much more by reading of Graham Greene's locations for his books, and discovering more about both the author and illustrator.

My favorite novelist illustrated
I have read every book by Graham Greene, and the author collaborated with the artist on this book. The paintings, primarily pen and ink with watercolor, are of locations in Greene's novels. Each section has a summary of the novel, commentary by Greene, and diary entries by the artist about his journeys to each location. The best of two worlds for me: returning to much-loved books, and paintings by a legendary illustrator of exotic locales. I was not familiar with Paul Hogarth, but now am searching for his other author-linked works.I learned that Hogarth did the cover art for Penguin editions of Greene's novels in the 80s/90s. Hope to find a few, as I have gradually lost or given away my copies of the books.
