The De Bono Code Book

​I'm a De Bono fan, but this project's cumbersome, dead-in-the-water, and exactly what it's not supposed to be — silly.

Edward De Bono introduces in this book the foundation to a new universal language based on a systematic approach to the important matters of life. Quite demanding, but also very rewarding in discussing difficult matters, if implemented in a larger scale. This will really lead to a better world to live in. But unfortunately there is not yet any solutions on how to make people understand the importance of and adopt such a language.

After reading this book I'm left with the image of two people attending the scene of a car accident. The first person is someone not used to car accidents and flounders around not knowing what to do, panics and does more harm than good. The second person is an experienced emergency services worker and knows the key things to look for in an accident and how to respond. The worker gets on the phone to other workers and identifies the situation in terms of generally understood code words.Edward de Bono has written a set of codes for our personal and work lives. This may seem like overkill because our lives do not seem like emergencies so there's no need for a long is of "emergency codes". However, our lives are an ongoing opportunity to do better and there are daily decisions we make that can have a long term effect. In the same way that the emergency service worker is trained in likely contingencies, we can train ourselves to recognise the probable situations we will face in life so that we are prepared when we encounter them.Recently a friend of mine said, "I'm in this particular situation all the time, I need to say something but I don't have time to offer a long explanation and any terse explanation I provide is usually misinterpreted and makes things worse! I am so stressed!" I leafed through the de Bono code book and found code 10/12 which I suggested would solve her problem. Now she has a code she can use that is quick, easy, unambiguous, assertive, calm and conciliatory all at zero cost.I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Don't be fooled by overly critical reviews. It's not perfect — so what? You will find this book to contain a fascinating and unique way of thinking and manipulating abstracts and patterns that you could never have happened across anywhere else.

I have known of this book for many years> deBono is the most under-rated genius of all time. This book shows how Humans could improve their communication by leaps and bounds - how translations could be easily linked numerically. If any of my remarks interest you - get a copy and prepare to be amazed at how this author predicted the advanced in knowledge in both psychology and neuroscience.
