Game over: Strategies for Redirecting Inmate Deception

Better than I expected
This book probably hasn't sold much due to the poor reviews. Well, I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. Game Over is an excellent addition to any ones criminal justice library. First of all, let me say that I am a huge fan of Games Criminals Play which provides a solid foundation and it should be required reading for all in corrections. Game Over adds to the body of knowledge and brings updated research to corrections practitioners. I think the most interesting knowledge contained in this book is the 8 criminal thinking patterns. Most who work in law enforcement will recognize those thinking patterns almost immediately. This book is a great reference for those wishing to extend their knowledge of inmates who manipulate as fresh research is often cited. My only complaint about the book is that it seems to be a little long winded on the manipulation examples, but that is just me. If you learn more from reading examples, then this book would get a 5 star rating. Could it replace Games Criminals Play? I don't think it was meant to do so as it cites that book regularly. If Games Criminals Play is a "must read," then Game Over is a "strongly suggested" and "highly recommended."[...]

Long winded nothingness...
This book is written by two PHD Psychologists who work/worked in prison and boy can you tell... I would much rather have read a book from authors who were officers because officers have better stories of inmates acting up. It's very long winded, especially in the first 7 chapters of complete fluff where all they do is babble on and on with example after example talking about other people's books and saying they will explain and blah blah blah GET TO THE POINT!Anyway, in chapter 8 the authors finally get done rambling about other books and move on to bragging about themselves... Great... BUT the content does pick up and they finally get into how to redirect inmate deception as the title states, but I have to say that anyone with even a grain of common sense would come up with these same defense mechanisms/strategies against menipulation. I work in corrections and everything they say to say in response to inmate menipulation is exactly what we all say here at work without ever having read this book because it's common sense. If an inmate asks you to break the rules, say no, and make it about them, because they are almost all extremely selfcentered narcisist, say why would you try and disrespect me or make me disrespect myself and my position by asking me to break the rules? Then walk away or dismiss them to walk away. If it continues, write them up, easy as pie! This book is long winded, pointless, yet well sourced. If you've read Games Criminals Play, then you have all you need right there, this is just added fluff that sort of complete the last tiny piece of the story that Games criminals play left off... probably because of how common sense it is... Over all I'd say if you are in corrections and bored just read the 49 pages from 125 to 174 and call it good, if you're not in correction don't waste your time this book is pointless.

Very interesting
Very interesting book. Describes a lot of different manipulations inmates use and the best part to read is all the scenarios this book gives you. Great book to read for class.

Good book for corrections
It's hard to find books on this topic that aren't all "war stories", but this one does well. Worth a read!

Lots of stories to give you an idea
I found this book very instructive and useful. Most books in this category give a lot of academic background which is not useful or helpful at all. However this book does a great job of giving significant amount of stories that took place to give you a better idea. I believe people learn and remember the best, if they are told in story format.Another great addition to this book is "Games Criminals Play".Thank you
