NetSocket AV200 200Mbps PLC Adapter Kit w/Filtered Outlet (2 HPAV Units)

I needed to have a computer at the far end of the house (fairly long house) connected to the network and my attempts at WiFi were sub par even with a high performance PCIe adapter with dual antennas, etc. The connection speed was never good as it had too many walls in between, Instead of using a repeater, I decided to try these powerline adapters instead and after viewing all of the brands I settled on these for good performance vs. price.These come with two little patch cables, a simple paper to show how to use them and the two adapters themselves. I just connected one near the router, the other at the PC far away in the house and it worked. No issues and nothing to do but test them out.My TWC connection speeds according the dsl report's speedtest is good for 24Mb/s downlink and 2.2Mb/s uplink as referenced by a physical cable into the cable modem itself.When I moved the same PC to the far end of the house through these devices I test at the IDENTICAL speed over multiple iterations. These devices have a program that you can download from LEA called "LEA Softplug" that shows status of the adapters and the LAN speed. Mine indicates 104Mb/s with a "High Speed" link between the adapters. Inside the app there is a powerline rate tab that shows 104Mb/s reception and 54 Mb/s transmission which looks to be the max rate I have available on my powerlines with them.The only negative is a small one, but since I often listen to Art Bell show on Shortwave, my Panasonic Shortwave receiver now has a perpetual "motor boat" pulse in the audio from these devices since I am on AC power. I verified it by disconnecting them (both) and the sound was gone. Overall it is a small price to pay as I can go DC with the radio but it may be important to some people. It may be able to be filtered at the radio but I am not going to worry about it.These are really good products and the handy AC plug on them does not waste the outlet. These are not the fastest on the market but work fine for my needs however I am not streaming HD video.Two weeks of solid performance so far with no need to reset or do anything else to use them.Update 7/11/2016:It has been almost a year with these units and they are still going strong without any issues. A few months back, I attempted to improve speeds by testing the fastest units from a competing brand, but to my surprise, in my house, they offered no improvement in speed at all over these LEA 200's. I have to conclude that my wiring does not allow for the fastest speeds so I am sticking with these units if I want to expand the network.

These things really do work right out of the box, so well in fact that I was accessing my neighbors network, and they were accessing mine. The product gets 5 stars for plug and play operability, but fewer stars for security.I received these on December 2 with the intent of using my old xbox 360 to stream video in my bedroom, this was cheaper than using a wi-fi adapter. I cannot move my router because the cable only comes up in the living room, so this seemed like the best solution.Unbox, plug in, and it magically works! My xbox is online, I plug in my laptop and run a speed test, it's pulling about 9 - 10mb/s, not too bad. Then I decided to attach a switch at the other end because my wi-fi is shoddy in the second bedroom, so I run cat5 into the next room and wire up my laptop. This goes really well until I start noticing other computers and shared drives appear in the "shared" section of Mac Finder. This was really bothering me and I thought my router had been compromised, so I attempt to access the admin page and it's locked me out which freaks me out even more (turns out my router has been known to have this issue with the latest firmware), I do a manual reset of the router, update the network SSID, change the password to something more complicated, and these shared devices were still showing up in Mac Finder. Even more concerning: they are showing up on my router administration panel as devices on my network. I started to think something was up not with my router security but with these devices possibly crossing over the electrical grid in my apartment block.I unplug the NetSocket from the router, the unfamiliar shared devices then disappear from the router admin page...AH HA! It must be the NetSocket. Then I go into the bedroom and notice that I've still got a connection on the other NetSocket, despite the other one not being plugged into my router. I have two laptops so I decide to plug laptop #1 directly into my router, and laptop #2 directly into the NetSocket (unpaired).... the result: 2 different IP addresses, and all the unfamiliar shared devices show up on laptop #2. I decided to download the LEA diagnostic software and sure enough it's showing my LEA NetSocket and a TP-Link netsocket somewhere down the wire, I was definitely on someone else's network!I followed the instructions provided on the LEA website to pair the NetSockets in secure mode, but nothing was working, it only wanted to pair with my neighbor's TP-link. This is frustrating enough that I'm considering just running cat5 across my flat just to avoid using someone else's network.All of this diagnostic activity occurred on Sunday January 3, 2016. Fast forward to today and I'm now in receipt of a DMCA notice from Comcast saying that I downloaded a copy of Battlefield 4. Three issues with this (not necessarily relevant to the product review): (1) I don't play PC games, I don't have a PC capable of playing games like Battlefield 4, I do all my gaming on the Xbox; (2) I don't use P2P software; and (3) the date of the alleged violation was on 1-1-2016 at 02:46am (new years day) while I was out celebrating the new year and not even home, so something it up.So a word of warning: don't assume your devices are paired properly until you check the IP address.Regardless of my DMCA notice (I've never received one before so I don't know what I'm supposed to do), these devices compromised my network security - my endpoint was on a neighbor's network, and their endpoints were on my network.Bottom line: these devices should ship in SECURE mode and pre-paired. I tried multiple times to pair them according to the instructions on the LEA website and was ultimately unsuccessful. I suppose if you live in a single family home you might not have this problem, but I live in an 4 unit residential building in San Francisco, sandwiched by dozens of other 3 and 4 unit buildings, the electrical grid is crossing over somewhere and it creates a massive security hole.

Getting about 30mbps out of my 75mbps connection, so not quite as advertised (200 ? psht), but at least it's a stable connection and enough speed for what I need. However, it does not come with a proper instruction manual, and I was panicked for a bit as I tried to use their security features and was locked out of my own network.... after googling the product I discovered how to reset it, but still don't have had a clue on how to pair the two adapters.

Works great got it for faster gaming connection, it has done that job, no noticeable lag anymore. I will let you know thou i can be a bit finicky, there is a type of light in my room and if it is on my connection is way worse, i don't like the light so i don't use it, then no problem. So certain appliances may cause an interference with the signal only one i know of is the 1 light. I have used it for many months before writing this review. For me it has worked awesome, as long as that 1 light says off lol. Also hook up was a breeze plug in and play.

Horrible. It is advertised as plug and play, but the device does not function at all. The instructions packed with the device are vague at best (half of it was French) and at the time of writing this, the manufacturer, LEA, had a blank website completely devoid of support. I wasted 3 hours attempting to get the devices to work...
