Poorly written. Poorly edited. Not many alternatives, however.
The book does not appear to have been written by "bright minds." Several of the questions don't make sense. There are several grammar and spelling errors. Some questions have multiple correct answers (as in, there are two identical answers among the choices!). There is little to no explanation on how to answer the questions, nor are there complete descriptions of the strategies one might employ to solve the problems. There are no details about the actual CogAT test (such as the typical number of questions, time allowed to complete it, percentage of students who pass it, etc.).Really, this book is simply a practice test, and nothing more. The problem is that there are few alternatives, so you may have to go for this one if you are in a pinch. The kids I know who studied with this book said that it basically covered the sections on actual CogAT, so it was helpful in that regard.

Good prep book
I searched the web for Cogat test prep but could not find many at all, so I decided to try this one. This workbook is only 50 pages long. It is divided into 9 sections, which are Verbal classification, Sentence completion, Verbal analogies, Quantitative relations, Number series, Equation building, Figure classification, Figure analogies, Figure analysis. Each contains 20 to 25 questions. My 7th grade son started this book about 5 days before the test. He worked on it about 30 minutes after school and finished it in 3 days. This may be a good review material right before the test to be familiar with the test format, etc.

good value in comparison to alternatives
I bought two other cogat practice books from two other companies in the past, and this one is at least as good as the best of the other two. It does have some mistakes/typos and it does not give any guidance as to "why" certain answers are correct, but both the other brands had the same shortcomings. Basically, it's just a practice test with answers, in order to familiarize yourself with the real test before you take it. However, the price on this one was quite a bit better deal than the similar books from other publishers (at least at the time when I bought it), so I'll give it five stars for value.

Not OK
The book was good for getting to know how these tests work but a lot of the answers were wrong and even some of the questions did not make sense. Whoever edits these should be a lot more careful to read everything.

It is good book to get familiar with the test type but my girl found quite a few mistakes in the book.

Practice Test seems too easy for Grade 7 & 8
I don't recommend this practice test for 7th & 8th graders because the questions don't provide much of a challenge for my 6th grader.

Bought this book for a quick review. My girl is in 5th and was tested today at her middle school. She said the book is actually harder than the actual test. She finished doing all the questions in the book within 5 days prior to the test and she was correct for most of the questions. This is a good value book to prep my girl in a short time before the test.

Highly recommend!
My daughter had to take the Cogat test to be qualified for Gifted classes when we moved to a new state. She used this practice test e-book and she scored in the 99% percentile! Highly recommend!

Terrible, several wrong answers
I was very disappointed to find there are several mistakes in the answers. You can't learn if you can't rely on the answers. In addition I found it impossible to trace the publisher to notify the mistakes.

Lots of mistakes!
For a publishing company of educational texts, this is pretty poor quality material. There a quite a few grammar mistakes (some very serious) and wrong answers. It feels like it's been produced by non-native English speakers, because the errors are glaring ones, for example:"The Louvre museum is one of the largest, most visited museum in the world hold nearly 35,000 objects from [prehistoric] to 19th century." - This makes no grammatical sense whatsoever! However, considering that there is little to no material available by any other publisher, I have to thank the publisher for at least publishing something.

Pricey for what you get
Content is good but there is just not enough of it. Basically 1 test and some tips. At $32, it was pricey compared to other books that had more practice content. But options are more limited for COGAT prep.

Good for practice test
Book is mainly practice exam with an explanation of each section. Good to understand the format of the exam and questions.
